I'll donate £10 to help rescue the data from the hard disk anyone else?
Let us know what we might be rescueing and im sure people will donate too.

I don't know but isn't it possible to get some files from a corupted floppy? Might also work on a harddisk

There's some freeware hard disk recovery software out there you just gotta find it.
A while back my hard disk went wrong, saying there was nothing on it. I found a program I think called Lost and Found and I managed to recover a load of files :)

I'm willing to put up $10-$20 USD if it gets to that point, but lets first see if he has anything backed up.

I work for a Hard Drive Repair/Data Recovery company so maybe I can help ThunderZ out.

If he could post the model of his Hard Drive (as much detail as possible) and what exactly went wrong with it then I could post some ideas of how to fix it. The OS and filesystem will also be useful.

Just wanting to do my bit for the GP32 community :)

thunderz should start a new project and put it on sourceforge and we could all add to the codebase.

What about a mame port.

iirc Dejap had a serious HD death on their hands a while back. It cost around $1000 to recover. HD recovery is very expensive - whilst people might be able to get together enough to do it, it'd be a long, hard, road to that sort of figure...

I have a tried and tested, good recovery program that has rescued a few hard disks for me already. Whomever is in contact with ThunderZ, PM me, if you're interested.

It all depends on if the hd is physically damaged or just corrupted-if its data or fat corruption then lost & found might sort it but if its physical damage then it's gonna cost big.

I hate the word 'should'. Coders work for free and if you don't like what they code start you're own projects no one's going to stop you. you should[/] use could instead of should.

I hope ThunderZ is able to recover most of his files. I bet it is possible with some luck and help from ross_hall.

Btw : jlebrech Rlyeh is working on a Mame port called Fmame32 it will be released when Rlyeh release it and not before!

I heard its gonna be released shortly after Duke Nukem Forever and Team Fortress 2  But its his decision, would already be nice just to know that it is possible at all to emulate mame properly. hope hes getting the thing done soon.

But youre right. I hope, the files can be rescued, too.

Well... it looks like it REALLY got hot for ThunderZ's harddisk... it was on fire...
So we should hope he's got a backup...

BTW: I have a program which can repair PHYSICALLY DEFECT sectors (yes! It works! It saved a harddisk I wasn't even able to format anymore...)
It was pretty cheap, cost only 30$. But it only works with some defect sectors, a more defect harddisk is not recoverable by any tools... that's what's expensive.
