I have been planning to buy this multimedia device for some time (for movie and emulator use). How do games like Super Mario World and Mario Allstars run on GP2X without overclocking?

you don't need to worry about killing your gp2x with ocing, only battery life, but I'm not sure how well they run because my batts are like 98% dead and I don't have time to test them out right now

i played some allstars with mario 3 and it runs fine, perfectly playable/sound.

I've just been playing Super mario world and it runs perfectly -sound on, no overclocking (not sure what vsync does but its switched off anyway) Although it can run a bit too fast if there isnt much on screen.

I did notice though that sound can become distorted for example in donkey kong and zelda. Oh and the bug is still there where the osd will pop up randomly
 
Pretty fucking nice. Chrono Trigger runs at 45-50 FPS (FS0, 266 MHz). FF6J is still chugging along at ~20FPS (FS0, 266 MHz), but still, very nice. Looking forward to that other 10FPS boost.

One small question how to you go from a game in progress back to the frint end ?!??!?
 
I have tryed to get this thing working and I can not. can some help me. can I have complete instructions please!!!!
 
Very impressive! I got Megaman X1 to run with 0 frame skip and it ran around 50-60fps! (I did overclock to 280mhz though) But still...it looked so smooth and played very well! I still need to try some others, but I need to charge my battery.
EDIT: I did try Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, and there were some sprite problems with links shadow and peoples faces.

Overall, this is one of the biggest improvements I've seen speedwise in a long time with this emu..keep up the good work:)
 
I hope there's a way to make the transparency layers completely gone...without also messing up the gui and stuff.

Like in super metroid.
 
I am curious, and hope that I don't get misinterpreted for mocking an emulator when I am simply wondering about a feature set. However, would it be possible to explain how DrMD, my fave emulator, can run so fast, and make it look so effortless, yet a SNES emulator isn't as good in the same areas, and takes much longer. Are the architectures so radically different, as I was under the impression that the SNES was still only a sub 12Mhz cpu, which my limited knowledge suggests that even poorly coded emulators should be speedy. (Though I know in practice is isn't, from my foray into SNES emulators for OS X)

Quite simply the reason that DrMD is so good, is that Reesy wrote an ARM9 core for the emulator.
SquidgeSnes is still using a C core (IIRC) which will be slower.
Reesy is working on optimising SquidgeSnes so progress will be made. :)
 
Indeed; a 16-bit hack of an 8-bit chip, the 65c816 @ ~2.68 MHz is far less stressful to emulate than a true-16 bit 68000 at ~7.6 MHz! So it's all supporting hardware that is stessful beyond the initial slowdown of the C core.

Might I suggest the ability to turn off unwanted layers-- like those with transparency? This would make games that use transparency in just some areas, like the Mega Man X titles, playable when ordinarily they are not. I don't mind if the transparencies are broken, I'm interested in playing the game. :)
