The FPS display said 30fps, but it definitely wasn't. It was usually more like 5fps.

Ok, it's a day before the beta release.
So more progress has been made:
- You can now choose an overclock on load.

- Menu system.
-- On boot:
--- You can set whether sound is enabled or disabled.
--- You can load a save state.
--- You can toggle video interlacing on/off for performance/quality.
-- In-Game (yay!)
--- All of the features of the boot menu, including switching games mid-game.
--- The ability to save states.

- Improved the blitter. Games that needed scaling will look better, and go a bit faster now. It's currently done in C++, but probably won't be much faster in assembly. Thanks to Unai for the math needed for blitting routines.


Stuff that needs to still be fixed:
- Some small polygon bugs in the GPU
- Progressive interlacing

It would be nice to have the recompiler ready for tommorow, but it won't.
So with this beta, keep in mind there's still a lot more performance to push. If you get 15 FPS in this beta, it's possible 40+ could be obtained with a recompiler. There's also a lot of stuff that can be done with the GPU that Unai and I have in mind, such as frontbuffer rendering.

Will keep everyone up to date...Things look ready for tommorow. :)

Well, from profiling, the CPU emulation (interpreter) takes a large 50% of the processing time. When the DC version switched from the interpreter to recompiler, it got a 3x speed boost. I actually took 5 FPS off the 3x mark, since the interpreter has been improved since then and the GPU has been optimized.

I think 40 FPS in games is possible and could even go as far as saying probable. The GPU has a long way to go, and even if the recompiler doesn't happen right away, more performance is to come.
 
This sure sounds great! Will the beta release be available to everyone or will it be closed?

If you could figure out how to use the 2nd cpu correct that would give a nice speed boost too. (yeah that was hint for my question if you already using the 2nd cpu)
 
so do you have any idea how long the GPU recomp will take? i mean, are we talking 2 weeks, or 4 months? not asking for a specific date, you know, just to give an idea of when to expect it to be 40fps:p

I would too like to know how far down the road this this.

Now where the heck is my perfect NES and SNES emulator? The PS emulator is going to beat them. :lol:

I should check this dc emu ... I wonder if the gp2x is "theoritically" more powerful than the dreamcast ?

cpu wise maybe if both cores are utilized or you overlcock, but the dreamcast also haves a gpu wich could be of great aid.

Doubtful, ARM CPUs are not exactly known for being terribly powerful, and the DC has an FPU, and a 3DFX GPU. And the DC can also be overclocked to about 270Mhz...

the DC has no 3Dfx GPU ... in the first days it was planed that 3Dfx should provide the GPU, but SEGA withdraw from the deal, leaving 3Dfx in a bad situation (they allready put much ressources in the project).

The GPU is a VideoLogic PowerVR Series2 Chip build by NEC. It has a amazing feature called "tile based rendering" which reduces the necessary memorybandwith to a minimum.
