GP32 Gp2x Breakout-box Prototype: Usb Works!

So will the GP one be powered by the GP2x or by an external power supply?

Assuming that the EXT's usb is host capable it must be powered by external supply. Otherwise it'd not work as there no 5V anywhere in the gp2x

You don't need a 5V supply to get 5V.

Eg. art103 has a powered usb host interface cable that'll work with devices requiring upto 100ma, but doesn't need an adaptor, as it uses the GP2X for it's power. He takes 3V in and outputs 5V.

Yeah I know there are voltage regulators/boosters but I doubt that batteries in the gp2x could power external devices for long.

Perhaps such things like a keyboard? Anyway there should be option for external power supply.

yeah it's possible, but we're talking about a docking station, and what's more an official one, so i don't think gamepark will bother including a converter to use the dock from the battery, dock is not really meant for "on the road" :D
so there will logially be a simple plug for an external power source ;)

There are DC-DC boost chips that are 90% efficient, and on average your run of the mill inductor charge booster can get 80% efficiency without breaking a sweat. Optimizing and building a good circuit can supposedly get you 95%+ efficiency.

True it will drain the batteries quicker, but we are only talking about loosing minutes with low drain devices. a 500ma portable HD on the other hand... get an AC adaptor.

He's got an option for that too :)

Whats really needed now is software: a filemanager to copy from HD to SD

Maybe the file explorer from firm 1.4.0 may work. If the external disk is mounted on /mnt/nand/ext , should be browseable from the file explorer and use the copy functions, select files and copy to the SD :)

the noise wouldn't be a problem with a filtered power supply or just some capacitors to clean up the signal

Craigix and Nickspoon, how do you know that Gamepark will be making a USB breakout box? According to gp2x.com English Bulltein Board, Anna informed us there are no plans to make such a product (see posts 24 & 28).

Consequently, could you please clarify this for us since if Gamepark won't make such a product then those of us who are interested will need to look elsewhere.

Thanks!
Manny

Craigix told me, and I'm assuming he's got it direct from GPH themselves.

Think of Craigix as GPH's prophet. They talk to him in funny voices, giving him information that no-one else knows and is probably accurate. Just sometimes they're a bit fuzzy about it.

Anarchy (administrator of gp32spain) also have the info...
He ask people in order for GPH to know how many people would be interested in this breakoutbox... Of course a lot of people are interested... See this post

On the french forum called yaronet we have an equivalent topic...See it here

Seems that GPH wanted more info about their costumer before starting producing...

If GPH wanted more customer input and are in the planning stages of building one, then they should tell us. Instead, they confusing us and denying they are building one at their forums. I believe there's great interest for this and GPH should embrace that and tell us to wait until it's built.

Thats great

But i already have al of the parts and i'm going to build one myself :p
it's cheaper for me that way :)

I already asked Rich some things that i had to know
