GP2X My Travelling Gp2x Rig ..

Torpor, congratulations on your setup, that is awesome.

I've ordered a phone connector from local shop and I'm going to try and build a cable in the next few days.

Do you mind me PMing you if I have any questions?

@torpor, great job on getting it all together! I have a tech question for you on that cable, what electronics are in the egg?

I assume at the least a max232 chip (my Samsung e810 cable hack has that inside the casing :)), and possibly a way to make 5 volts. Have you or do you need to provide 5 Volts to the USB plug?

I have been saying this since I saw the pinout for the EXT port. I want a cable to connect USB. I fully believe that a cable could be marketed for no more than $20 that has the power and filtering circuit embedded in either end (or the middle) of the cable using surface-mount components so you can't even see it.

Does anyone know of a 2.5" or 1.8" HDD Enclosure powered by 4 AAA batteries? I recall seeing an external Laptop optical drive built that way on eBay, but I can't remember anything more.

I bought some 1,000mA AAA Batteries at Wal-Mart and I could easily make any 1.8" or 2.5" HDD portable with that for power, but I want to know if you have seen an ready-made enclosure?

Have you seen the INOI MyDrive 1.8" 20GB HDD? Look at the pictures here and see how small it is next to the USB plug, damn. Just need an elegant power supply.

Have you seen this? Cyberpower AAA powered external USB 4-port hub is very elegant and seems about the size of the INOI MyDrive.

I could easily put the AAA in sets of two on the back (think PSP or GG bulges under your fingers, but with 2 AAA apeice) and power myself with Wifi for a good long time :), completely mobile, and if I put the USB plug on the back I could have the Wifi stick pointing up like an antenna.

I think hot glue would work to hold it on in a temporary fashion for testing, but the ultimate would be a snap-on back cover incorporating the batteries and USB hub (and in my dreams the 1.8" HDD) in a sleek black shell. I have to see when I get it together if it would all fit, but I wonder if it could be done so the back only sticks out as far as the existing bulge :D.

How many would be interested in an option to put four AAA batteries in the back of their GP2X if it meant the possibilty of Wifi and a USB hub fully mobile in one unit with no wires? And any 1.8" or 2.5" HDD could likely be powered off the USB?

Here is a project I'm currently working on...

Won't the silver get really dirty? Even without touching, silver things tend to go very blotchy and nasty-looking.

High quality silver does not tarnish. Silver with a lot of lead does tarnish. We are using surgical-grade silver for the pimp knobs - this means that it is very pure grade silver, with no other 'pollutants'.

I have had my pimp-knobs in constant use for 6 months now, and there is *zero* tarnishing. They are bright, shiny, very warm to the touch, and solid.

Ohhhhh!
See, that's where I got confused. I thought it was pure silver that tarnished. Well, then I guess that's out of the way. How many do you have left and for how long do you suppose you'll still have some left? This needs some consideration, because it IS decidedly pimp.

Looks Kewl,

All Silver Tarnishes over time, no matter how pure it is, it oxidizes over time. I have made Jewlery out of very hi quality Silver, after a few years it does dull and needs a bit of brightening.

Contrary to popular belief, silver does not need constant cleaning and in fact should not be cleaned more than absolutely necessary.

Maybe the pimpknob has a slight patina to it, but its still as fresh looking as ever .. my point is, it hasn't gone all grey yet, after 6 monthsh of use ..

How does she manage to see the screen in full sunlight?

In the Outside World, there are things called "Trees" and these get in the way of "The Sun" such that you can put your head + GP2X under them while still maintaining your "Body" in "The Sunshine" for "a Tan" ..

What are these "trees" you speak of?

I think you need to provide images. Be sure to include image of said female... so we can understand the scale reference, of course!

The Pimp Knob is definitely A classy addition.

I so want one! But I'd like to trick out/protect/personalize the unit as well.

I'd like to see "Battle Armor" skin sets for the GP2X. I bought some from decalgirl.com for my GBA to personalize it ,and protect the shell from scratching/grime. They were amazingly durable and fairly cheap. They come in a miriad of designs and styles for PSP,NDS,NDSL,Xbox,360,Gamecube,PS2/3.

I contacted them to see if they intended to produce the "Battle Armor" sets for GP2X pre release, and they responded saying they were unsure of the demand.

I bet if we could get enough people to ask for them they would produce them. Check them out!
