Gp2psx V0.33

has anyone else tried Civilization yet?
it loaded with the releases some weeks ago (upto the title), but not with the new releases.
i've not very much free time now, so i just re-ripped the cd and selcted it (with and without HLE) and had no luck yet :(

did anyone alse tried it? maybe it did something wrong...

edit: i mean, it's somehow realistic to hope that Civ2 can become really playable, as it doesn't use much graphics.

Yea I'd like to know that too, I dont have the original resident evil but it'd be nice if it was playable with decent frame rate

Ridge Racer could be considered playable if you don't mind taking two hours to finish a race...

I noticed a bug when playing both (yeah, I only have two) of my PSX .bins.

The top several lines of the screen are rendered at the bottom instead of where they should be.

Heh, yeah, things are still slow in the FPS area. Though I have been getting help with the project coming in. Hopefully some good performance boosts will come!

Wipeout XL runs on GP2PSX now. Though slow (10 FPS) you can actually finish a race, like Ridge Racer, in a long while. :)

I'm playing it on the Zaurus in the meantime. I love wipeout. :)

I'll test Civ 2 in a second.

If Resident Evil is playable that's amazing. I remember someone saying it worked before, though slow. Playable though? What FPS? I have RE Directors Cut. I'll try it out later today.

i'm running ff7 fullspeed. How i did it: overclocked 266 mhz, used hle, frameskip 5.
Also, there's no sound! Is sound implemented?

well, i just tried out final fantasy tactics, and it works, but is VERY slow. I didn't use HLE emulation, would that boost the speed? (i'm off to try it out now!)

Anyways, thanks!

EDIT: it freezes on the "loading game using HLE emulation" when I try to load with, yes, you guessed it, HLE emulation

Nope, no sound yet. I plan on putting a true SPU codebase in soon. It might not be worth it on the GP2X yet, but at least for the Zaurus port.

It seems HLE isn't working again in v0.33. I'll try to get it working but everytime I do, it cuts the compatibility of non-HLE games to about half. So I prefer the compatibility over HLE at the moment. Hopefully I can get both. :)

FF7 playable? I'll try that one too. I remember it was having issues in previous builds a long time ago. Remember though, FF7 is a multiple disc game, and I currently don't have code in the CDR codebase to switch between discs. So be sure to save often if it is playable. :)

OMFG. Resident evil almost playable? I literally said 'Woah!' really long, drawn out, and out loud! That is crazy. Now I'm going to have to ask someone to try MGS. Just once. (Maybe a few more times...) I would, but I don't have a GP2X. Yet.

Yet!?!

Yeah, I'm the one who spent their money ages ago from some unmentionable (because it would cause the earth to rupture in two) online vendor who has no real intention on distributing the GP2X.

ill try this out over the weekend. thanks for everything 9and thanks for the n00bish guide Shikaku :). It's perfect for me )

@zodttd:
i heard, Civilization 2 was playable with the zodiac version.
did that require some special optimizations, or is it just that the game only uses few 2D graphics?

I just tested Civ1 and it took 5 minutes to load up the image, then it got stuck at the nation select menu. That is without HLE(HLE doesent work with it) and no overclock i get about 4-5 fps without frameskip.

I tested Civ 2 ripped to BIN and then compressed to ZNX and it worked fine. Without HLE of course. Weird. Only issue I had was a flickering screen, which is a bug that occurs in some games like SF Alpha 3. Not sure why it would be different on your end. :/

It did run about half speed though. Not sure if my GP2X was OCd but if it was, it would be at 275.

FF7 now works and I was playing it. It never crashed but is still a bit slow for my taste.

Oh, Civ 2 did run on the Zodiac but crashed early on within the game. If I get time I'll update the Zodiac version for kicks. I don't think the Zodiac will handle the PSX as well as the GP2X though. :/

first all those snes rpgs .. now ff7? I'm in rpg heaven
screw the ipod nuero, i want the gp2x ext port <-> neural interface cable

note to those who don't get the joke: the ipod nuero is the stuff of an in joke between my friends and I concerning Apple's next music playing device. It will of course be handy for those with songs stuck in their heads.

how much time does it takes to load an image?? i ripped my cds using ISObuster with raw rip (*.bin) with a .cue. Should i load the .bin or the .cue ??

and is ff7 really playable? i say.. at last something like 30 fps?

lol, I'd imagine 15fps would be playable on a PS1 (full speed at FS3?)

30 fps is wishful thinking for now.
