I bought the GP2X without even considering commercial games. But hey, if they come out with good commercial games for it, I'll be glad to buy it.

I do admit that GTA is more like a wish than an actual possibility, but some big names ARE supposed to be coming out for it, according to craigix.

It'd be cool to have a Katamari game for the 2X. XD

Although, barring the fact that this probably won't happen, if they came out with a Crimson Skies game for the 2X, (3D of course) I would snatch it up for $50-$60 probably.

tricky. like some others here i got my gp2x for 'quick fix' and retro-style games (like noiz2a - wow!)

i don't really play the longer modern games, because i can't put the time in to do them justice, plus i don't think they work as well in a 'portable' format. Eg, I bought "dark chronicle" (ps2) ages ago, and its AMAZING, but i've hardly scratched the surface of it really, and I don;'t think i'd play that 'style' of game on a handheld - its better on a bigscreen.

I'm very doubtful that the gp2x could handle the epic style of games that make up most modern releases. and for a modern price (like £30) I would expect a 'modern' amount of content in the game.

currently I'm playing things like:
1. Uridium (C64, via Frodo2X) - which cost me £1.99 many years ago (on 'Kixx' i think)
2. nioz2a - freeware
3. Quake - which you can buy now for £5
4. Psyvariar on PS2 (£15 new, or like £5 on ebay)

I'm not even going to consider paying £30 for this kind of thing because it's more short lived (though just as much fun!).

maybe £15 to £20 (for something amazing).

perhaps I'm not typical of the market? i don't know.

If we get DS/PSP/GBA level games, I'd be willing to pay what I would for a game on those consoles.

That said, I think cheaper games, in the realm of roughly 10-20USD are more in order. I'd pay full price (even $40USD, that is) for an official PuyoPuyo game or a classy clone. I don't think that's a common sentiment, and I have to say I wouldn't necessarily do it for similar game, though RPGs and games with nice graphics would push me over the edge.

On US taxes: In the United States, it's typical practice for you to not find what tax is until you go to the register and have your purchases rung up; this is because the greatest tax is Sales Tax, a percentage of the purchase price that varies by state. Tops out at 25% (some nuts want that to be nationwide and kill off all other taxes), typically closer to 10%, 6% in my state.

So yes, we US residents are not including tax. We are still cheapasses, however.

On tying games to units, I would warn against that on the basis that, in the unlikely event that two GP2X owners meet with their units on them, they cannot trade game briefly and demo them for each other - an excellent means of spreading games. They could briefly trade consoles, I suppose, but...

Also, a service I've seen performed on other occasions is that purchasers of hard copies of items are permitted immediate download of what they've just bought - this would be an excellent service for the GP2X community, even if it came at a slight extra cost; it could easily be controlled by allowing the downloads for a limited period, long enough to ensure the hard copy reached the end user; say three weeks?

Most of this is a crapshoot, but I certainly look forward to the release of any commercial games of quality on the GP2X.

When he says "big names", "ports from psp" and "Uk", does that mean mercury?
That'd be interesting... B)

I'd suggest adopting the highly successful PalmOS practice that you can download the whole game for free, it will work on any unit but only as a demo. You have to buy an unlock code for your device number to unlock the full game. Good for customers since they get a demo, good for developers since they get easy exposure.

I've been trying to remeber what that game was called for about 2 weeks now, i remebered playing it on my a500 years ago, but couldn't remeber what it was called for the life of me!

Oh Please let that be a big yes!!
Mercury is so far the only title to make me actually want a psp.
If Archer released Mercury on the 2x and it was as good as the PSP version, i'd gladly pay £30 for a copy.

Otherwise

£25 for a Wipeout Pure level game
£20 for a BombermanDS level game

All boxed prices, subtract £5 for a d/l version

Thanks for confirming the tax situation. I was not implying Americans were cheapasses ;).
It has occurred to me that the 'Rip off Britain' phenomena will also skew the results. Over here we have to put up with being charged more than most of the rest of the world for the same thing. That's before the taxman adds his cut. So we are generally more tolerant of higher price tags.

Man, if konami released a special Castlevania collection (with oh say, Super Castlevania 4, Dracula X:Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night...) I could see this system selling very well... With both major handheld companies pushing for 3D more and more, the GP2X would sort of be a final bastion for the glory that is 2D... my $0.02

Exactly. I'm kind of fed up of the "every game MUST be 3d" thing in the industry at the moment. the Castlevania, metroid and advance wars games on the GBA are some of the most enjoyable titles I've played for ages. Sometimes 3d just gets in the way of good gameplay.

So basically, for a PSP / DS port on the GP2x I wouldn't really be interested in paying mowst likely, even if It could be done at a decent framerate without an accelerator chip.

For a port of a decent GBA game or a reworking of a classic game I'd pay 10 - 20 GBP.

For a good, original 2d game I'd pay the top end of the scale - around 30 boxed, possibly up to that much for a download.

(I didn't vote because none of the options really apply to me.)
