Woogal...

Thanks very much for your quick Quake port! I was very impressed to see it running (even if a little slowly). The only problem I have noticed so far is the controls. Sometimes a "left" on the stick is detected as a "down left". Aside from this it works just fine so far. I am looking forward to whatever else is in store for this great console!

I especially can't wait for Duke3D and Lacuna. I am indifferent towards QuakeII as I never played it on the PC.

Looks like it's running about as fast as my HP iPaq (300mhz Samsung ARM based processor) when running an unoptimized config file. Rather impressive for such a quick port, looks like its already playable (depending on how pick you are =)

Curious though, I'm assuming this doesn't use the second core? Do you think the second core will offer a significant speed improvement? Would you offload the drawing functions or...?

Just curious. It's awesome that its already on there =)

Hmm.. The Quake 1 port is called Quake2X.. what will the Quake 2 port be called? Quake2X^2? :-D

Very nice woogal. This is the first RELEASED port for the GP2X, isn't it?

i havent recieved my GP2x yet, im curious, i need a complete version od quake AND woogals port to run this, correct? or do i jsut need the file woogal released?

This is an educated guess, from my previous experience with Quake ports...

You will need the data files from either the full version of Quake, or the shareware version. Either should suffice. The data files are in /quake/id1. The files are:

pak0.pak: the shareware episode and relevant assets
pak1.pak: the remaining three episodes and assets

Exactly. Apparently this will also run some mods though I haven't tried any out so far. I'm just so impressed that I can play a (fairly good looking) version of Quake 1 on this thing. And yes indeed, this is the first (publicly) released software for the GP2X. The future looks bright indeed. I want Descent 1 as well. That was one of my favourite PC games for a long time. If this thing can handle Quake, Descent will run very smoothly.

Thanks you two, I thought I was the only one who wanted descent on here <_<

When can we expect a Descent 1 or 2 port?

Anyone working on it?

And yes, I'm salivating at the thought of Descent as well. Quake as well is awesome.

Speaking of quake real quick, see if anyone can find Zestorer: Testament of the Destroyer. That was quite possibly the best single player mission set I've found for Quake1. Hard as hell though.

This is great news. Woogal you are a legend.

Am so glad I will have something to load up when my GP2X arrives.

However I am new to this and from reading I see I require the pak0.pak and pak1.pak files. I have done some Google action and am having problems locating these. I wouldn't normally ask but as id released the source code for this I figure it is ok to ask where I might be able to get these from.

I have looked on the id website but I am having troubles downloading anything from them.

Cheers

pak0.pak is the shareware release, while pak1.pak contains the commercial levels. You should be able to find the shareware release on id's FTP site.

I think I have the correct .pak files ...

pak0.pak is 17.8MB
pak1.pak is 32.6MB

Does this seem right, as far as file size?
