Also known as 'badly'.

When I used to read Naruto they came 1024 wide and far taler then the screen and I couldn't have them zoomed out to fit within the screen because some text was unreadable, at least on my old screen. Scrolling up and down is no problem, it's not fun to scroll in both axels when reading.

yeah, scrolling in both axes isn't so good.
you know, with the psp, reading manga/scanlations wasn't so bad after the images were resized with psphoto. only the width was resized to 480, and the length was resized to a proportional amount. with this, you only had to scroll going down.
only thing i didn't like about this was that the psp took a little pause to refocus the image after scrolling. i hope with the gp2x, there'll be no need for refocusing!

From Squidge about his Quake port:
"the scaler is built into the hardware - I wasn't going to use the second CPU for it. I don't even have to tell it to rescale each frame (like on the Zodiac). You can just say "here's the new screen buffer" and it zooms it for you whilst updating the LCD"

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=20824&st=15#

Should mean that scaling is done instantly :)

I wonder if Serious Sam could be run on it. The original of course, not the new one. The system requirements are 300 mhz and 64 megs of ram, but that is pc.

Without access to the source code, let alone proper 3D acceleration, chances are slim to none.

Actually, just none.

There's always Marathon, Hexen, Heretic, Doom, Quake, etc. though...

What is that game?

And there were actually a LOT of good x86 games that were never ported to other platforms like the Amiga or Atari ST... most of them don't use the mouse either so the control scheme would be a perfect fit.
Blake Stone (1-2), Commander Keen (1-6), Cosmo, Duke Nukem (1-2), Hocus Pocus, Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit (parts 1-9), Monster Bash, Rise of the Triad, Wacky Wheels, Star Control 2, and a lot more that I haven't played (yeah, I was a big Apogee fan ;)).

I'm also looking forward to being able to play Starfox!

Master of Orion

Great game, better than MOO II in my opinion (haven't played III). I'm pretty sure it was only ever released for DOS though, so playing it would seem to require some DOS emulator.

Star Control 2

That's already been ported to Linux. It might be possible to get it up and running on GP2X from that source.

The Ur-Quan Masters

:D :D :D :D :D Thanks I didn't know that existed, I know what I will be doing for most of tonight... Loved that game...

A port doesn't seem impossible, it requires 200mhz, 64mb RAM, uses SDL 1.2 and is 320x240 already..

Yeah, I'm actually looking at the Games menu on my Ubuntu machine right now and most of the game I've installed seem ripe for porting to this machine. Ur-Quan Masters (SCII), Marathon/Aleph One, Doom is a given, LinCity, Nethack ( :) ), Frozen Bubble, etc.

Really looking forward to finally playing handheld SNES with decent speed and a full button set. Final Fantasy III in particular. Also looking forward to the Quake I port.

Agreed, MOOI was the most fun. MOOII was very good too tho... they just crippled it in a few ways (like the "command points" crap limiting your fleet size). Do not, repeat, DO NOT play MOOIII. It's a spreadsheet masquerading as a video game.

While we're on the topic of old DOS gems we'll probably never see on the GP2X, how about X-Com: UFO Defense? :D

LOL, I had master of Orion II (it for some reason came free with my original sims game) for mac. Well I tryed it once and it hurt my head. Then I lost the CD and decided to burn the box and the manual in the fire, because I was bored and had no use for it.

.......
I hope it can emulate xbox360... :p

You could try contacting the Russian developers who did an Ufo clone for PalmOS... Just search for it at zodiacgamer.com or pdarcade.com ...
