I already posted that I want commercial games on the GP2X. Developers are not looking around for obscure handhelds to port to so we have to tell them. Let's contact developers and ask if they are interested in GP2X development!
I'll try to maintain a list of contacted developers in this post. If you contact a developer, please post the developer name, the developer's website and the email address you used. Also post if the developer has answered and what the answer was like.

An example email (this is what I sent):
Subject: New gaming handheld for Independent developers: the GP2X

Dear Palm OS & Zodiac developers!

There is a new handheld coming from South Korea and it might be worth
keeping an eye on: The GP2X from Game Park Holdings is designed for
independently developed games and ease of development. It is the
successor of the GP32 which was a commercial disaster at first but
then cracked open by homebrew and emulator developers. The GP32 still
sold a respectable 30000 units and has a great internet community
behind it. The GP2X will be open for everyone from the beginning.

Maybe you have concerns about porting your games to yet another small
platform. The GP2X should be relatively easy to develop for because it
has quite some power, standard hardware and Linux as OS. With a
resolution of 320*240 pixels the necessary graphical changes should
also be limited (and non-existent for games ported already to Pocket
PCs). Also consider that the commitment of a GP2X user is much higher
than that of a Palm user so the possible sales per units sold should
be much higher. And don't you also feel that urge to support a
hardware developer that is pushing independent development?

I hope you at least think about supporting the GP2X.

If you want to know more, check out these websites:
Official: www.gpx2.com
Community: gp32x.de
Distributors: gp2x.co.uk , gp32z.com

People you can contact with questions:
Game Park Holdings: hja@gpx2.com, kyute@gpx2.com
UK distributor (good connections to GPH): Sales@cdworld.co.uk (ask for Craig)

Of course you can also ask me and I will try to find out. :)

Thanks OrR,

You can tell them to speak to me if they are interested (just phone me). We already have a couple of great games lined up, some of which I *know* people are going to love.

Payback would be a cool title to get indeed.

Thanks,

Craig

Does seem a bit inconsistent. Official site being gpx2.com, and the distributor sites being gp2x.co.uk.

Something like this is certainly needed though, so good work, OrR :)

Nice job OrR. I did a lot of this for the Zodiac way back when, and it does help so long as you're polite about things.

OrR,

You might also want to mention that GP2X is Linux based and apps can be dev'd using SDL.

That may a bit of a turn on, since it means some level of comfort for many developers who've probably used, or are at least aware of, SDL before..

EDIT: Ok, I see you did mention it's Linux based, nevermind.

I would remove this though: "It is the
successor of the GP32 which was a commercial disaster at first but
then cracked open by homebrew and emulator developers"

A system being "cracked open" and "disaster" is not exactly what commercial software makers want to hear. If they think the system is plagued by piracy they won't touch it. I would also mention that it has DRM in place to protect their efforts. Other than that it is fine.

I'm an indie devloper who are interested in developing for GP2X. I'm a student so right now so I can't afford one right now. My current project is a free web based RPG that I recently started working on. You can check out my site at www.digitalawakening.net

Good news that pdamill is interested, they rule, AND I'm a betatester with VIP access. ^^

Good work, OrR.

Does anyone reading this have any experience in the Quake modding scene? If so, could you contact all the mod and game developers working with the Quake engine you can find asking if they are interested in commercial development on the GP2X?

A Quake port is in the works, so it may be better to wait until GP2X is out and the port is released. That would be the optimal time to spread the news to that community IMO.

There has been some promising support from commercial devs, should be able to post more very soon ;)

Must be the slashdot effect.

57 now. I've got to do another batch tomorrow... Will try to make them a little more personal, perhaps that'll get me more answers.

And maybe follow my advice and take out the "commercial disaster" and "cracked wide open" phrase. I mean who wants to develop for a system that is based on one that was "a disaster".

Try to keep it as positive as possible, and keep in mind your target and their interests.
