It sounds like "gi pi tux" <- reference to linux? :D

General Purpose, kinda like a Jeep...

They need a mascot, penguin driving in a jeep. :D

How many people told them that they should keep there "GP something" in the final name? I didn't count them, but there where a lot here and there.

There is no marketing-pope needed to predict that a radical change of an announced product-launch-name is always bad.

There is also no marketing-genie (or contest) needed to change two of those letters.

I wondered that nobody noticed the anounced new name in the interview yesterday

Hopefully they give us the 12 favorites name they chosen.

mr.white

If GPX2 ain't registered they didn't need to change it and really more than 1640 suggestions just for swaping two letters is a joke. I really hope that the other Gamepark won't make these goofs. I also hope that GPX2 or GP2X whatever will be a killer handheld and the XGP too so we will continue having a variety of handhelds to pick (GP2X, XGP and hopefully soon Project Ninja (the last I think also needs a naming contest but only if they don't choose Ninja Project for their name :))).

ok...

go to the first page... craigix posted "Trademark Reasons..." so i would assume that gpx2 was already registered.

And i think Gp2x is a good alternative... its better than GPenis or SPS.

So then what did they change the company name to? They said that they wanted to change the name of the company as well as the handheld to separate them from gamepark that now makes the XGP.

www.google.com has www.gogle.com too.
1. They registered it some days ago
2. They said to Anarchy the name so he can register the domain, gp2xspain.com is registered.
3. gp2x.co.uk is registered

WHAT ELSE?

www.gp2x.de is also registered by me since yesterday ;)

SPS Is The Best! I am just kidding. By the way Gamepark had to do a research before announcing the name GPX2 so it is their fault (and if they did it and the GPX2 was free name then it is again their fault for making the name contest).

I honestly dont understand why people are so mad about the naming contest existing. People didn't give them a good enough choice of names to pick from, this is not a suprising move if you concider all the entries bad.

Be glad they didnt just say "All your entries suck, Please try again".

Well, there were some names posted by Spanish people @gp32spain that were very good.

Alpha...you're just presuming they didn't like any of the names. If they were picking from a pool of 13, they must have liked at least some of them! I guess most of them were either already taken or just not quite suitable.

Yeah, well, problem is: Most GOOD names were already registered by some other company... this limits the selections down...

Exactly my point. From the 13 names GP2X had to be one of them The rest either were not as good a fit as that one or taken already.

Maybe they'll post the runners up later but I doubt it since they would probably rather not piss off the people who thought their name was better for what ever reason.

I'm not mad about it, I just don't see the point, really. I guess if stuff changed beyond their control, it's not really their fault, but without knowing exactly what went on, you can't tell me this didn't look like a waste of time, can you, really?

Hehe, I wish they really would have picked SPS, that would have been hilarious.

GP2X is FINE.

I don't care about the name. Just start making the damn things so I can get one. :)

I remember this quote that was said once at our company:

"All the good names have already been taken by companies that are competent".

I was struggling to hold my laughter after hearing that :)
