It's just before 11pm here, gonna head out in a few minutes to the gamestop where I reserved my PSP, where they are having a midnite release 'event'. I guess not every Gamestop is doing this, as I was at a different gamestop earlier today to pick up a copy of Lumines (which is sold out most places but I got lucky and found the last one at this gamestop), and that particular store was NOT opening at midnite for the release. That was one of the smaller stores though, as I understand it most of the 'big' Gamestops are doing the midnite thing. I dunno if EB is doing it at any of their stores, all the EB's close to me closed down over the last couple years, and I know other stores like Toys R Us and Best Buy are not, but instead will open early tomorow morning, at 8am, as opposed to the usual 10 or 11am. I know Best Buy did NOT do any reservations so it will be first come first served in the morning. It also seems that most stores are getting pretty large quantities of systems... of three gamestops I have asked at, they were all getting in the 100-200 range, and one gamestop actually did have more systems than they had reservations for so this is good news that hopefully the system will not be as hard to get as the PS2 was when it dropped.

I also went a little crazy and picked up a few more games, Wipeout Pure, Ape Escape, and Metal Gear Acid (yeah I have the japanese but really want to play it again in English, yes IMO it is THAT good even though IGN gave it a crappy review???).

I'm scratching my head at Wipeout... Having always been a big Fzero fan, Wipeout seems very similiar excet with weapons and with WAY more slippery controls on much narrower courses which means a lot of hitting walls and is very annoying for me so far... making me wonder what you all love about this game so much but I will keep at it... maybe it's an aquired taste. So far it's not even close to F zero as far as I'm concerned.

Ape Escape is just like the PSX version except a little cleaner looking and of course the controls are different w/o two analog sticks but the new setup works just fine IMO... I have had no problem on the first four levels stunning and catching monkeys with the new setup. Damn but this game has a LOT of loading times and has to load often and this one part is very annoying... I'd have given it an 7 or 8 out of 10 on initial impression alone if it weren't for this but with all the loading it easily drops a point.

I sold Spiderman 2 back as it WAS short as everyone said it was, beat it in about 5 hours... good game and I probably would have kept it but I want to pick up as many games as I can so sold it back. I'll probably buy it back used for cheap one day as I have done with both console Spidermans. I'm gonna try to sell my japanese Dynasty Warriors, Dark Stalkers, and MGA to people while I stand in line waiting for them to open :p

Ah so you've never played wipeout eh? You got to get used to the handling first. I'm not sure how its with the analogue as I always played wipeout with the digital pad. Keep hacking away at it and you should find one of the best futuristic racing games. Also MGA got a really good review from gamespot.

Well just got back from the melee :D :p actually it wasn't that bad, only about 50 people showed up, I got there about an hour early and was like the fifth in line. I got pretty pissed though the guy in front of me was talking to a bunch of people on his cell phone, apparently they were all organizing to get as many PSP's as they could from different places... for the obvious reason of throwing them on Ebay and selling them for way more. I guess it really shouldn't have bothered me but me and my wife sitting there listening to him we were both just getting pissed off... like how many people are gonna be screwed because of dicks like you? But whatever, that's 'capitalism' for you.

Anyways, when the store opened they only let us in two people at a time to keep the store from just being packed from wall to wall. I was only able to sell Dark Stalkers :( so still stuck with Japanese MGA and Dynasty Warriors... kotd if you were still interested but I dont blame you if you're not, gonna just try to ebay them I suppose. That's always the biggest downside of buying Japanese games. Ah well worse comes to worse I'll eventually play thru the rest of Dynasty Warriors anyways...

I brought my Japanese PSP out but damn it was COLD out so I only played for a minute... Mr. Ebay's-a-lot was ALL over me wondering where I got that one I decided to piss him off and tell him Blockbuster was selling them early to first come first served and had like hundreds of them that all sold out. :p Fuggem.

Anyways so got the new one home... no dead pixels or any else really, except it does have a couple of notable hairline scratches on the screen cover.. but you know EVERY Japanese one I have seen up until now has come out of the box with at least one scratch on there... I wasn't even about to try to return it for that as I'm betting the US ones are all like that as well or at least, significant enough percentage that it's just not worth trying to get one w/o any. The US one doesn't have ANY apparent dust under the screen though or really any of the little problems all the Japanese ones I have seen have had. Even the sticking R button problem has been taken care of (both my Japanese ones had this). So.. for anyone worried about all those bugs that the initial Japanese ones had, don't.

I figured it would... I just thing that IGN had the WRONG person to review that game for them... you could tell right off the bat he was mad because it wasn't a regular Metal Gear game, and then the supposedly sucky multiplayer just sealed the deal as far as he was concerned. Well hopefully more people read Gamespot than IGN and won't miss out on a great game. I am greatly looking forward to playing it again in english and actually knowing the story and what all the cards do this time :D

Bast, I know I'm fretting over this but was Tiger Woods available?

It's the game I've been most looking forward to.

I think I did see it there, it was one of the pricey ones at $49.99. I'm not positive though... 75% sure I saw it there.

OK!
i haven't been this psyched since i was first about to get my dreamcast waay back then, haha.
i'm about to go to the store to pick it up now. they didn't have a midnight release at the one closest to me, but they're opening at 10am today(now it's 9am).
gonna go pick up wipeout along with it as i only have enough $$$ for one game now.

too bad i won't enjoy it much today as i got two classes later on. plus a crazy math test later on

i wish i had a digicam to post pics and stuff, but maybe later.
seeyas!

edit:
bast, wha, yo never played wipeout before? what the hell were you doing back in '95?

I was just at CheepAssGamer and a lot of people seemed to be complaining about dead pixles/dust in theirs, A few people chimed in saying their system was fine though, so aside from the stuck buttons they still seem to be suffering from the same thing as the some of the jap units.

Hopfully Sony will take a "no dead pixel" policy like nintendo did.

i didn't see tiger woods over there but according to gamestop.com, my store doesn't have it(makes sense cuz i didn't see it), but it's available online and there should be more on the way to my store.

anyway, the best thing EVAR happened! my test got postponed to nest tues so i dont' have to worry! i just wish i didn't leave my psp at home since i have a huge 3 hour gap till next class that i was going to use for extra studying.

anyway, man i hope i get no screen issues. i'll report back later this evening.

seeyas!

Finty - already have Minna no Golf, it's still my favorite PSP game so far.

I'm probably going to go back and pick up Untold Legends today, if I do I'll check and see for sure if they have Tigre Woods. Most of the good launch games were sold out already last night... seems most people did like I did and went and picked up games as they were releasing over the last week or so. Lumines in particular was a bitch to track down.

Last night as people were coming out of Gamestop with their PSP's a bunch of us took them out of the box and fired them up... I'd say at least 10 of us had them on checking them out, and not one of us had a dead pixel. I have taken a VERY close look at mine as well and have found ZERO dust under the screen, though this was a big problem with my Japanese ones. Again good luck to anyone who get's one with dead pixels who thinks their gonna try to exhange it right then and there. At Gamestop they straight up told everyone before letting us in that if there were any dead pixels there would be NO exchanges at that time as there were no spare systems, and I heard one guy say they wouldn't do anything about dead pixels anyways unless you bought their $30 extended warranty otherwise you had to deal with Sony if you had any. Of course other stores may be nicer about it.

On mine there was just a couple small hairline scratches and two of those 'bubbles' or little tiny round dimples on the faceplate/screen cover, both of which I've seen on almost every PSP I've held up until now.

Been playing Wipeout and trying different ships and finally found one that agrees with me! Suddenly I'm doing MUCH better and enjoying myself quite a bit more at the game :) + not smacking into walls nearly as much. As far as why I never played the original Wipeout actually I did play it briefly, I think on Saturn though... anyways it was no big deal to me back then I really was NOT a fan of racing games at all... I didn't get into racing games until about the time Mario Kart 64 and Gran Turismo made me into a huge fan.

EDIT: for anyone who is even remotely interested in Metal Gear Acid.. please dont' read the stupid ass IGN review... read the Gamespot review instead which actually points out the games GOOD points... I really hate to think how many people will miss out on a great game thanks to one biased review....

I pre-ordered mine, so at 9:25 am I was unpacking my new toy.

I got the fist bundle offer from EBgames; I got to pick from a list of games & accessories. I got:

Wipeout Pure - insane! I've been loving this game since PS1
Brotherhood of the Blade .. something or other - haven't tried it.
Lumines - Again, Wipeout took all my time this morning, then I had to go to work :(
That corny 'aluminum' carry case/accessory kit - I threw away the screen protecter, wrist strap and removed one of teh padded partitions to make room for the power cord. Nice case, even comes with a car charger adaptor, which was cool, as well as a set of retractable ear buds.

No dust, no dead pixels, no scratches but plenty of fear about smudges, fingerprints and other grime messing up my precious.

9.5/10 (shaved off half a point since the soft 'case' they provide is nothing more than a cheap-looking eyeglass pouch)
