Thanks to the organisers for another great compo and a fair result at the end of the day, well done to the winners! :D

I've given my entry a bit of a spit and polish.
from the readme:

-changed the text on the title screen(still flickers tho) and added the whole theme tune.
-fixed a bug that let you continue shooting after dead
-added a scrolly starfield background of sorts, does make things look better though.
-fixed a bug in the badguy shooting code and remade a few levels to shoot as intended.
-other things that I forget now...

Btw, it seems that some people have had problems getting the game to work. Do read the doc...

With bezier(ahem) movement and some better bullet patterns I'll have a reasonable little engine. I need a gfx artist to help though, my art skills leave a lot to be desired (hence only one badguy sprite in blair wars ;) )
If anyone might be up for doing a more substantial Radiantesque type thing with me please do get in touch!

Think you mistyped the URL?

And congrats on a solid entry!

Fixed the link, and thanks :)
I'm pleased with the update more than the actual release but thanks. I'm just a bit gutted that the judges didn't read the readme! - note to self, better error handling next time.... ;)

I had the same 'problem' as aapje89, the game would show the end text and then a bit after bring up spivs debugging screen so I thought that was the end of the game. I will try the new version soon and see if its fixed.

I didn't saw the debugging screen, after the final text my gp rebooted.
The new version still doesn't work for me :(

It depends what firmware you have on your GP32 if you get Spivs debug screen or not, Spivs multifirmware has it.

I tried the new version and it still crashes after the end text, either I am doing something really stupid or theres a bug? I dont get any enemies or asteroid fields, just osama scrolling down the screen and the end text?

Well, :/

Check to make sure you have created a folder called blairwar in gpmm:/ and that the WAVES folder is in there, NOT gpmm/

If you still have problems then I don't know what's going on...code that only reads the files off some smc's and not others...?

Hope this helps.

until someone says, "yes I have the WAVES folder in the right place but it still doesn't work" I'm gonna presume that this is the problem.
If you don't have the waves folder in gpmm/blairwar/ then the game lasts about 8 seconds....this would seem consistent with what some of you are saying.

oh, and both versions are the same length, I just put a few different bullet patterns in the update..

I guess that means the judges could not figure out your readme. haha. I demand a recount!

well, from the readme.txt

Installation.
-------------

Unpack the zip to get the two items:

WAVES - a folder with all the level data in it.
blairwar.fxe - game binary.

Copy blairwar.fxe to gpmm/
Create the folder gpmm/blairwar and put the WAVES folder inside it.

I don't know how I could have said that more clearly :D
Oh and this has nothing to do with me feeling like I missed out on a chance of winning, clearly that isn't the case. The other entries are superb, every one.
I just don't want to find out that a stupid bug that doesn't show up on my gp32 is the cause of this, that would make the hours of work I did seem somewhat pointless.. and that's the last I'll say about it before I start sounding bitter ;)

Well I had tried it before and it didn't work but then I realized I had named it blarwar instead of blairwar and then it worked. :)
