The Communication Cube

hex(0041) is.
No, that's a haxadecimal character in UTF-16 or UCS-2. UTF-16 can represent most characters in one 16-bit number (stored in two bytes), but there are characters which lie outside the range of one UTF-16 codepoint, although they're mainly emoji as far as I've seen. UTF-32 exists to contain every known unicode codepoint as a single 32-bit (4 byte) number. But then what is unicode? All UTF specications are defined by unicode consortium, but I tend to think of UTF-8 as being a compromised format, and according to logic UTF-16 is also slightly compromised, but UTF-32 is the mode unicode you can be. But I guess I can't argue that the codepoint of A in UTF-16 isnt a lot unicode when I think of it.

Some young guy knocked on my door, and said God told him this morning to warn people that Judgment Day is coming soon, sooner than we think. I should’ve inquired more about his story, I bet what God said to him was really interesting. He didn’t appear to be affiliated with any organization, just doing this on his own.

John Keynes predicted that capitalism would no longer be beneficial when the acute competition stopped yielding benefits such lower prices and innovation. He thought this would be around 2030, but look what's happening now. Stock markets are manipulated. Virtual monopolies abound. Work is so political it's hard to get promoted unless your a disabled sexual deviant. People are going to start tuning out, not be bothered to work because .. it's not worth the effort. This has been happening in more advanced societies such as Japan for a while. Young people are happy to live alone in a teeny flat with only virtual contact. They'd rather live in isolation than face society. So yeah, I envisage bucking societies norms becoming widespread. Aka revolution.

The original Xbox live was shutdown a long time ago, but a group of people are trying to create it again by themselves. They got it running for a bunch of games already and working on supporting more games.
Currently it requires a modded Xbox but that might not be needed in the future.

https://selacogame.com/ uses GZDoom and plays just like F.E.A.R. Weapons feel punchy and the hit feedback is pleasing. And it has plenty of secrets to keep me entertained.

Edit 20220721 Bought Hedon Bloodrite. I dislike the graphic design, and the music selection is a bit of a mess, but the movement feels perfect, weapons are fun so far, levels are sprawling, interconnected and there's a load of secrets to discover. I quite like it despite my nagging!

This should be in the playing-recently-thread.

A dude on the NDE subreddit said that he was in a car wreck, and that while he was in a coma, he was inside of a spaceship, and one of the men there told him that he was hurt by an asteroid. Makes me wonder if we all aren’t on a spaceship right now.

If we are in a simulated environment, why would we put ourselves in it or are we forced. I can imagine traveling through space could be boring, but wouldn't we put ourselves in some sleep mode so we don't age that much?

I understand the sci-fi concept of stasis to be almost entirely a pipe dream. I'd have thought these days that using crispr or something similar to edit your genome into something that doesn't age would be more likely.
