Global Chip Shortage Threatens Production of Laptops, Smartphones and More

I also use youtube, but I've wangled a way to get rss feeds out of google, which gives me the video url which I download using you-get or youtube-dl depending on my mood (and which is most compatible with the latest of google's machinations), on my video server, then I transcode that so that it plays better on my local computing device, then I watch that the next day mostly. I don't need a youtube account or bookmarks or any settings, or in fact any of that proprietary nonsense.

You can get bookmarks and subscriptions locally with freetube
It breaks from time to time but when it works it's suuuper convenient and feels like an official website/app except everything is stored offline and you don't need an account for anything

Sounds like Tube Sync as mentioned here at 1:03:13 ?

I still wonder if that shortage will continue for a very long time or if we'll have way to many electronic parts in the future as everyone is ramping up their production now.

Yeah, I'm surprised how they haven't fixed this yet. I mean this thread is over 10 months old now, and I'd heard of this issue a few weeks before that as I recall. I mean they'll have long term commitments to whatever they're actually making right now (though I'm not completely clear on what this is still) which'll need to be fulfulled before they can move on and make what'll actually sell. Perhaps they've got warehouses full of crappy stock they can't shift and they need to before they've got space to make the new stuff.

I'm not at all well informed but I somewhat fear a Chinese-Taiwanese war or some such, because of all the obvious humanitarian reasons. But it could also disturb chip supply.
The thing I'm worried about is an electricity shortage.
Yes, a potential concern too. I heard China ordered more coal production in their northern mines (they're getiing less Australian coal?). The climate be damned if they can't warn their houses and all that. :( And solar panels come mostly from China too, so it would be reasonable that if there's an electricity shortage there as it has already been, they may prefere to install those panels themselves instead of exporting them...

Yeah, there's a backog here at Felixstowe, ships keep coming in and cranes offload their cargo, but because of the shortage of articulated lorry drivers it's just getting piled higher and higher there. I'm honestly not sure of the situation in other countries at present, but it seems like the delivery systems coming out of lockdown somewhat out of whack everywhere.

FanlessTech has an article about Hardkernel discontinuing their ODROID-H2+ due to the difficulty of getting Gemini Lake processors and ASRock’s Jasper Lake motherboards being cancelled...

You could add Genova and Trieste harbours, but in this case it's because today it's entered into force the prohibition to work for those without Green Pass (COVID-19 vaccinated, or recently tested, maybe recovered, I don't remember).

In Destination Linux Network’s exclusive PinePhone Pro interview, around ~18min mark (didn’t check exactly but it’s from around then) the point is made that in ~nine months’ time we could very well see parts shortages spill over into things like screws...

Steak? A luxury? I thought it already was. It's not just something you eat everyday.
