Which software do you miss on Pyra?

I'm not getting any email from ED, and wanted to raise the question to keep me entertained.

I'm asking obviously about things that we won't find in Debian ARM repo and we need someone to port or adapt it to Pyra.

My point of view is that regarding productivity, all I need will be there on the repos. What I miss:

PPSSPP optimized for Pyra. I guess most other emulators will just work pretty well from the repository. Although I wish for DBP versions of all other emulators and engines up-to-date, and optimized in performance and controls for Pyra.

DraStic. It became one of my preferred emulators in Pandora, and opensource alternatives won't be playable on Pyra.

Box86. I'm wishing for a user friendly packaged version. This open the door to so many older and indie PC games, I'm sure this will become one of my favorite applications.

And what will you miss on Pyra? At least at this stage.

Code::Blocks optimized for Pyra.

Not quite software, but ED mentioned that the SDL libraries need to be rewritten for Pyra, but not SDL2. I was wondering if maybe SDL2 could still use some Pyra-specific tweaks though.

I didn't thought about it, but indeed, Code::Blocks will help porting/developing anything else to Pyra.

Honestly I never actually used Code:Blocks application on the Pandora, I've used the PND for sure for it's development environment. But that said we're dealing with debian here, a full development environment is an apt install away, perhaps some scripts can be made to install a healthy environment for people that don't want to deal with the hassle.

KDEnlive would be nice for quick video edits/snips on the go. Having a mobile video editor for those snappy meme turn around times is almost a necesity in the modern era.

Can just do an apt install kdenlive, you will import nearly all of the kde packages in the process, but should work.

Code::Blocks is in the Debian repos and just works (used it a few times on Pyras at Gamescom). There's no need to adjust or optimize anything there. Used build tools and libs in this case are the ones installed on the system anyways.
The app itself might not be the freshest IDE anymore for modern C++, but that's another topic.

Hmm, didn't realize Code::Blocks was already in the Debian repos. On Windows, the installer isn't even signed. Didn't think they would bother getting it into repos.

I forget we're getting debian this time around, epic. I hope notaz is able to make his android in a .pnd this time around again, although I hope it's newer than android gingerbread.

"Should" be pretty easy... really it's just going to be a Chroot using the same Kernel... Which would be sick as that would give GPS passthrough for something like OpenStreetMaps renderers or Garmin for a datalogger/GPS... 24K Topo maps would be beyond cool on the Pyra. But yes, Android I feel in part is going to be a largely desired option, as that opens the door to basically every existing Emulator and Game / Application on the Play Store.

I remember we had an android port to the Pandora back in the day, but it didn't seem to make that big of a splash round these parts. Maybe it was too early though, and maybe by the time android did become desirable the port was too old and the hardware too weak for a new port.

The Android Port wasnt bad, it even was good enough for YouTube and some Games like World of Goo and Angry Birds, but it corupted my left SD Card, and there were some copys of PS1 Images on.. i know the Documentary for the PND allready warned for this, but who read the manual?? ^^

There is a Android Image for the Omap 5 Devboard, but maybe a Android App Emulator would be a better solution..

Almost never used android on PND for Pandora. I agree this time with GPS, multitouch screen, CPU, and others, a version of android for Pyra looks much more attractive. I prefer the DBP approach again instead of booting into it.

I completely agree with that, at the time it was a cool novelty. Though in both aspects... I don't think the Pandora was up to the task-- it was a bit too late in the game for the Android install itself. There was no Modem/GPRS, and was crippled with such little RAM on top of Angstrom. Perhaps we could all agree the utility and performance profile (feature set too) with the Pyra and an Android Chroot would be quite a bit more useful...

For those of you who drive often, think about running Waze on the Pyra with a car mount.

I would like to see Moonlight running, with something to make the PC you're streaming from see the Pyra's gaming controls as an Xbox controller, preferably. I found a project called Sunshine, that acts as a server for Moonlight for people who aren't using Nvidia and/or Windows.

I tried it and it works quite well.

Some lower Level Emulators, its awesome to see the "High Level Emulators" for DS PS1 and N64 running in the first Month of the Pyra,
But it would be cool to see some other stuff, running, like Tetris DX, or some SNES Romhacks like New Super Mario Land ^^

I have Mednafen from the Debian Repo where the Menue was working, but when i start a Gameboy Game, nothing dit happen..
Although i testet bevor i got Muppen 64 to run, maybe the Packages for Muppen should also help at Mednafen?

I think something like system info would be awesome on the pyra. Also other pandora specific games "super geometry dust" comes to mind would be cool to have on the pyra. Other than that I think imageJ and R are already in the repo definetly going to try those.

Im also curious about the emulators that could barely run on the pandora or some that didnt run at all. And of course I would like to see games that dont exist yet :D
