General Overview

With the days of the Pandora winding down and the days of the Pyra winding... up(?), I've decided to create a definitive list of all the games that exist on the Pandora.

I'm categorizing games as games that were either made for, or specifically ported to the Pandora. I do not count games that run on an emulator as games in this list. Additionally, I don't count things like
ScummVM or GemRB, because they play multiple games. This list is really about individual games for Pandora.

SOME OF THE GAMES ON THIS LIST REQUIRE YOU PURCHASE A COPY OF THE GAME OUTSIDE OF THE PANDORA REPO. Though not always directly through the Pandora repository, games like Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Return to Castle Wolfenstein require a purchase outside of the Pandora repository. These games will have a note that a purchase is required directly beneath the game's title, and the note will contain a link to where you can make the purchase.

Nitty Gritty

I intend to include the following things with each game:
  • Screenshots from the game. If a shot from the Pandora is available, I'll use that. Otherwise, I'll use images from other sources (official website, etc.)
  • A video of the game on YouTube. If I can find a YouTube video of the game running on Pandora, I will use that. Otherwise, I'll use another video.
  • A thank you to the author of the port or original game for their work.
  • Score of the game in the repo. Most scores of the games in the repo are really high, probably as a way of saying thank you to the person who ported it. It's because of this, that I'll also include...
  • A score from external website. I'm partial to User Scores on MobyGames.com. If a score isn't available there, I'll try to find a score somewhere else. If I can't find a score at all, I'll post that I can't find an external score.
  • The next three I might need help from the community on. The first is Accuracy (out of five). This is specific to ports. How accurate is the game on Pandora compared to the game on the original platform?
  • Next is Speed. Does it run at the same speed it does on the original platform. Again, out of five.
  • Last of the three, I'd like to include "Playability". Sometimes, games that were designed for mouse and keyboard (for example) don't lend themselves to touchscreen, traditional gaming controls, and a reduced-size keyboard. A bit of honesty from the community would be appreciated here. Out of five.
  • A synopsis of the game. Will be taken from the Repo, or whichever source has the best written, succinct synopsis (Wikipedia, MobyGames, etc). Source will be noted.
  • Finally, I will include a link to the game in the repo.

Questions:

Q: Why are you making this list? Most of this information is available in the repo!
A: I think it's more convenient to have a big informative list with screenshots and synopses that you can scroll through than to have a list of only game names and score out of five stars. Also, I'm trying to include information not available in the repo. For example, external reviews (perhaps from multiple sources) and an honest-to-goodness assessment of how well the game plays on Pandora. There's certainly room for more information. As the maintainer of this thread, I will take feedback from the community, and update this post accordingly.

Q: You didn't include a game!
A: I tried to include everything. Please make a post with the game or games I missed and I'll add it to this post.

Q: I want to download all of the games!
A: I think that's a good idea. Maybe we could organize games into two directories -- "requires purchase", and "does not require purchase" -- and make a torrent to link to in this thread.

Q: The list would be better if you did this specific thing to it.
A: Again, I'm open to feedback.

Q: This thread blew up my smartphone!
A: No comment.

Final Notes:

I'm trying to get this thread stickied... but if it's not stickied, that's OK.

Let's get right to it!

Despite their dungeon-like appearance, locations also include populated settlements such as the city of Arx, where the player character can buy and store supplies, as well as other non-hostile areas. While several main quests must be completed in a specific order to unlock a new area, the player can access and explore certain locations freely at some points in the game. There are no dialogue options, but some missions can be completed in different ways, and there are also a few side quests.

Berusky II (Bugs Escape 3D) is our second finished project. We adopted the idea and the basic logical building blocks of the game from the first part. The technical processing, however, has seen major changes since the first part. The entire game takes place in a 3D environment which brings along many advantages. In addition to arbitrary turning and level zooming, the main advantage is especially the new structure of logical plots which, thanks to the 3D technology, happen in space.

Try to keep your VIP (the guy in white) alive as long as possible. The assassins will all try to shoot or stab him to death. You must do all you can to prevent this. Your reputation has preceded you, so the VIP has absolute confidence in your abilities and will completely ignore all the assassins. When an assassin is aiming at your VIP with a gun, you will psychicly see a line of sight extending from him to your VIP. This line will narrow and redden until it disappears and the assassin fires. Depending on the situation it may be best just to shoot the assassin(s), or to dive and tackle the VIP to the ground to avoid the bullet. Unfortunately your psychic powers do not show the line of sight of knife-wielding assassins.

Synopsis (from the repo):
Harmony is a 11-level stand-alone total conversion, created by Thomas van der Velden and released after five years of development.

In the near future: Led by greed and hatred mankind drove itself into another world war. The forces of the Northern and Southern Hemisphere attacked each other with everything their destructive arsenal had to offer. Nuclear, chemical and biological weapons wiped out entire countries. The combined effect of the weapons resulted in an unforeseen side effect; a supervirus emerged that mutated all the men on Earth. For unknown reasons the women were unaffected. But they weren't safe either...

The mutated men, though intelligent, lost touch with reality. From their corrupted minds a new order was formed; 'the Pax Pox'. Its first priority is to rid the world of the "impure".

The women who survived the war united to form an army against the mutant aggressors and called themselves "the Amazons".

Today one of the Amazon outposts is attacked and their leader; Amira is taken captured. Her last hope is her loyal friend; Harmony.

Will Harmony be able to rescue her friend and the rest of the human race?

Jazz retains his ability to hover in the air by using his ears, and Spaz can stomp and smash enemies. The hares use a default blaster gun with unlimited ammunition and can later acquire more powerful weapons, a few of which (e.g. a freezing gun) were not found in the first game. Coins can be found throughout the stages and then given to vendors to access bonus areas.

Non-PhotoRealistic Rendering (npr) is often considered the task of taking a 3d environment and displaying it as if it were (for example) hand-drawn. Stylization is the main purpose of an npr, as is with most pencil-and-paper artists (imagine if everyone who drew cartoons tried to make them look as realistic as possible - boring!). NPRQuake attempts to capture the elements of different drawing techniques, and immerse the viewer in worlds drawn entirely in the prescribed style. A top-down shooter at frenetic speeds, distributed as freeware.

Destroy the incoming fighters (which come in different sizes and even include bosses every few rounds), while trying to gather the "energy cubes" for points as they're left behind by your dead enemies. The setting feels futuristic, but it's quite abstract, and one could assume it takes place in a sort of cybernetic world.

Each time you play the game randomizes the enemy's location and firing patterns, so it is impossible to memorize positions, while providing quite a bit of replay value.

The graphics are pseudo-3D, with a minimalistic wire-frame look for the background and ships, though the colors and effects are quite impressive and have a very peculiar style.

It features four difficulty modes, but even the first two modes are quite challenging and demand extreme reflexes and hand-eye coordination.

Realizing that Lo Wang might jeopardize his plans, Zilla sends his assassins after him.

Shadow Warrior is a first-person shooter similar in style and gameplay to Duke Nukem 3D. The game set in a generic "Asialand", which looks like China and Japan conflated together. It features deliberately immature and politically incorrect humor, as well as a protagonist who delivers regular one-liners, commenting upon the situation at hand. Much of the humor is derived from over-the-top, stereotypical portrayals of Asian culture (e.g. scantily clad young women drawn in Japanese anime style).

Synopsis (from the MobyGames.com):

In the distant future, a small group of human exiles have been doomed to fight for survival on the edge of the galaxy. Through military strength, espionage, and deceit, a unified Terran government has maintained an uneasy peace. But a previously unknown species, the Zerg, has started overrunning their colonies. Furthermore, a second alien species, the enigmatic Protoss, became intent on stopping the Zerg. The Protoss solution, however, is to extinguish all life on Zerg-infested planets, including many surviving resident Terrans. At the same time, rebel factions within the Terran government are gaining popular support during the Zerg crisis. The time for war has come!

Gameplay in StarCraft has clear similarities to Blizzard's earlier WarCraft II. Building units requires credits and a power source, and once completed you can direct them into combat against foes. You only know the layout of terrain you have visited, and only the exact whereabouts of enemy units which are range for one of your units, due to the Fog of War.

Score in the repo: 4.69/5
Score on MobyGames.com (Macintosh version): 2.9/5
Accuracy: ???/5
Speed: ???/5
Playability: ???/5
Synopsis (from MobyGames.com):

Super Hexagon is a minimal action game. The player controls a small triangle shape in a fixed position in the middle of the screen. The only possible interaction is quickly rotating the shape in a clockwise or counterclockwise circle with a fixed radius to avoid oncoming shapes (mostly hexagons, all lacking one side or more) and walls whose progression matches the music's rhythm. Shapes often only have a little open space the player has to steer towards to pass through. Shapes can rotate as well and there are some tricks and difficulties where speed and movement is suddenly reversed.

There is only one try: when dead, the level has to be restarted. There are six difficulty levels and the last three, each the "Hyper" version of the former three, are unlocked one by one as the corresponding standard level is completed. Completing a level means making the triangle avoid collisions for 60 seconds; however, play continues indefinitely until a collision occurs. Optionally, the game can be played in an arcade mode: the only difference is a high score screen. Graphics and background music are psychedelic: sets of colours and tracks are specific to levels, while their order is determined anew at each play; a similar mechanic applies to the geometrical shapes running towards the centre.

Synopsis (from MobyGames.com):

Tasty Static is a clone of the classic SkyRoads with similar gameplay, but many different features, entirely new courses and revamped graphics. Players control a space ship on many tracks filled obstacles, pipes, floating platforms and other hazards. Gameplay is arcade-like, requiring perfect jumps, evasive actions and precise timing. To complete courses, players only need to reach the end without crashing. There is an unlimited amount of tries.

The courses have different themes that consist of three tracks each. Later levels include special tiles that speed up or slow down the ship, bounce it around, reverse it, or turn gravity upside down. Special strategies are also introduced, such as grinding off ledges, consecutive jumps and small changes in direction. After completing a number of tracks, bonus options become available, allowing the player to change the ship's colour, shoot obstacles, and more. All tracks are available right away and the game keeps track of the fastest times. It also includes an editor to create, share and import custom levels.

Synopsis (from MobyGames.com):

The Kingdom of Azeroth was relatively peaceful and ruled by King Llane. That was until a powerful mage named Medivh commanded forces that opened up a portal in the Swamp of Sorrow, leading to another world. This ushered in the Age of Chaos, as Orcs were summoned to this world and attempted to establish an empire. As the Orcish hordes swarmed from the portal, they met with the Humans of Azeroth and battles ensured. Peaceful co-existence is not an option. Only one race will attain dominance over the land.

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is the first real-time fantasy strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment. By playing either the Humans or the Orcs in this saga, two separate story lines evolve with 12 scenarios per side telling the tale of the battle for Azeroth. Players must mine gold and chop wood in order to construct buildings and create new units. From swords to sorcery, all the elements of classic fantasy are here to explore: rich forests, dark dungeons and bubbling swamps await the stalwart troops amassed to fight for dominance. Command many unique armies and creatures including Knights, Archers, Clerics, Warlocks, Daemons, Elementals, and Necromancers who are able to raise the dead.

@blimpsgo180 : interesting but you are missing *many* games and I don't know if it's intentionnal or not. But it the listing is supposed to be exhaustive, then all game should be there, but that means probably around 1000 entries, not sure a single post, even with spoiler, is the way to go?

On my side, and just for A-B, there is also: Advanced Strategic Command, Airball, Another World, Arx Libertatis, ASCIIPortal, Beret, Berusky 2, BillardGL, Black Shades, Bloboats, Bomberman collection

Also, it's not easy to see that on the repo, but last version of Duke3D are from me.

Last thing, I don't thing the pictures you have put for Homeworld come from original Homeworld, but probably from more modern version of it.

Don't know why we have to duplicate efforts over and over again unless there is a good reason to do so.
Note that I chose not to list games that I found "crap" in the first place, so maybe that can be a focus of your list, to include even the worst titles.
Hmm I guess my C4ALL enabled OpenTyrian port is crap, despite being in the top 10 games if you exclude emulators. Hase seems to be crap as well, despite having a wide community appreciation.

A list of recommendations based on your interests seems a bit crap, no offense.

OK, crap was a too strong word. Let's say "not excellent" instead. OpenTyrian is outclassed by numerous games you find on emulators, it's hardly the best shooter ever out there. Even Prototype is a clear example of a direct port on Pandora that's clearly of a much more professional level.

Hase is a decent game but suffers from many playability issues. I'm not criticizing the effort behind it, making games is hard. But if we were just giving all games 10/10 just because making games is hard in the first place, well there would be no way to say that some games are better than others.

Oh and by the way, please tell me if you find any shitty game in the list I compiled, because I'm pretty sure there is close to none.

I think some of the concerns here are valid, especially that 1000 entries might be a little long for a forum post.

I really appreciate what is being done here though. The added granularity for looking at game performance on Pandora and including original PC review scores is a neat idea.

I like this, so please keep it up!

Edit: Misread. Sorry. Fixed I think.

I'd like to make a quick note that this thread is now "open-source". If you want to add to it, you can make a pull request, or just send me a PM with the new code highlighted. Here's the link on GitHub:

I did reserve the second post in this thread. So maybe I'll put 500 games in the first post, and 500 games in the second. :p

I am not deliberately skipping games, and will add the ones you mentioned.

Thank you. I'm really grateful for the kind words.

I've been thinking the game performance stuff (accuracy, speed, and playability), I could fill out myself. It seems to be the main attraction of this list.

I was also thinking that it's very easy to shoot video and upload it to YouTube. My Nexus 6 can do 1080p. Having a video of many / most / all Pandora games would justify this thread's existence.

I like this ...the only problem is will be not very usable with all games in a single post like ptitSeb said.

Why not make a post for every letter (A, B, C..) and so on ?
Also i'll remember a web page created by user FZero that was very nice...i don't know if it is maintained anymore.

Now let's not get too huffy about this list, it's a great idea at least until it becomes irrelevant and out of date. It's worth noting that @blimpsgo180 have spent the time and effort to compile a list as they feel it's a worthy contribution to the forum and they probably started with a list of games that they like first which is practical. :p

Like some have mentioned though, lists can become outdated very quickly if not continuously maintained (There's evidence of that here and in the Pandora Wiki) but having said that, it's likely because they're not actually setup in a way that anyone can maintain them easily because wikis aren't really designed for such a thing (We found this with Daedalus and it's compatibility list) which now is pretty much dead but anyone can maintain it with a valid forum account.

If only we had a milky plugin that lists all the games here somewhere ;)

+Vulture's Eye (Isomorphic Nethack)
+Warfare Inc (One of the best RTS wargames)

Am I the only one who plays those?

warfare inc is already included on the list as "hostile takeover". I played it a lot, too but got a bit bored because of the crap AI. Don't remember it being so easy from when I played this on my zodiac.

I am very seriously considering making a video for some of the Pandora games that don't have videos.

Thanks. I thought now there won't be as many releases on the Pandora because the Pyra is around the corner. Because of this, I thought the timing was right to make a comprehensive games list.

I do understand the possibility that I'll stop updating the list someday. I made the list "open-source" last night, so that if I stop updating it, someone could make a new thread with the same content.

I note your coverage of Terry Cavanagh's excellent software is a little short. You have missed off his port of Super Hexagon, and while you have the paid for version of VVVVVV you haven't mentioned that there's also a Bring Your Own BoozeFiles version. Algthough I'm not sure of the best way to document the two releases of VVVVVV to be fair, either as two entries or one entry and a note - though I'm not 100% sure the two versions use the same code.

As far as I remember, Dune Dynasty PND asks to download automatically the game files from OpenDune

Both are doing it (and Dune Dynasty script is heavily inspired by OpenDune's one).
