I'm not going to buy any of them (gah, I don't have the money), but I think that the PSP is doing to be way better than the DS. I have always loved Nintendo, but why two screens? That's going to raise the price too much, and what's up with the cheap design? The PS however has a good design, it has far more functions and add-ons (keyboards, cameras, etc...) and sony is even discussing a telephone hybrid. The PSP will even have multimedia viewing functions like the GP32. I love Nintendo alot, but I wouldn't buy the DS if I had the money. I wouldn't be suprised if Nintendo goes the Sega path, but who knows...I've heard that Sega is planning to release a new console...

Nintendo has pretty much worn out their welcome and sickened me over the years (Broken promises, cancelled games, Sued fans, That whole pokemon fiasco.)

I'll PROBABLY get DS if the new 2D mario game is ever released (Heh, Here's hopein') But I'm swayed more towards PSP at the moment, portable dynasty warriors and armored core alone wins my vote.

Where's the choice for buying both and thinking they will be equally successful? because that's MY choice.

They may both be portables but I suspect their price points to be significantly differnt and their core audiances separate, aside from those that will eventually buy both for different games or functionality. 'tendo's gotta play to a differnt crowd they know they cant go after sony's market with a system much weaker graphicsally than the DS so they set it up as a PDA for people who dont want a PDA because it's too "buisnessy"... AND it plays GBA games (Win/Win). The PSP is a hardcore portable PS2 for all intents and purposes and Console gamers are going to appriciate that.

im getting a DS.cause im a big nintendo fan.And sony has a really crappy system out right now.ds cooler cheaper, goin be less ports and more innovative.Psp expensive short battery proboly break easy.On the other hand nintendo products dont break easy.my friend threw his through a vase still worked perfect. But i agree with above poster wil wait for another GamePark system and all the homebrew.

You are missing one answer. I am getting both because I am a hardcore gamer not a fanboy ;)) They both have strong and weak sides. But I hope to enjoy some good stuff on PSP and some good on DS. Btw. I recommend reading this news and especially its comments on lik-sang.com website http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3359. This is what I call true fanatism ;)) I am happy I am not like those guys. :))

i've got no particular alliance brand wise. owned a psone and an N64, a PS2 and a Gamecube.

it will come down to the games available and the potential it has. crackability will be important too :p

I'll prolly get the PSP. Not sure yet though... anyhow, I'm quite sure Sony won't release a product with faults in it (talking bout the battery life), they've got half a year to fix that issue :) and I trust them they will! ...or that they'll have a solution by thge time that they release it in Europe ^^

reasons why:

- I've owned both a GBA and a GameCube (hell, I've owned that GC twice!) and I both sold them. Imho GP32 > GBA and PS2 > GC (not graphicswise, I just have more fun with a ps2 :)), so I'm quite sure the DS will just disappoint me again :/

nds will still be cheap than psp
and will be better

nintendo all the way
there games are fun
gta can't touch mario

and will all the new mario games that come with this new system how can't it do well
and there is hope for a new zelda game or maybe a version of the new one for gamecube on it!

plus that lik-sang article says that there will be a square-enix game on it
i think that square will start making real rpgs for it (no crystal chronicals crap)

i will definently get a ds the day or weak it comes out
but i eventually will get a psp too
i has to have a few keepers on it

go nds

Like finty, I'm gonna keep my GP32 until the GP64 comes out. I won't mind having outdated technology because its goal is to run homebrew which will keep going long after other systems are out.

- price: you're prolly right, but you don't know for certain
- can't compare mario to GTA, they're different, but both great.
- count the new mario games on GBA.
- same, zelda
- I don't buy the square-enix thing. It'll be another tactics game or something like that, quite sure (not that those aren't great, I just like their rpg's better)
- crystal ch is not crap :)

Definately the DS. I am not prepared to spend upwards of £200 on a handheld on which to play crappy ports of PS1 and PS2 games (especially since there isn't a single game only on either of those consoles which I have ever liked, despite owning over 50 PS1, luckily most copies, and 10 or so PS2 games) on a small screen (i mean compared to TVs, so don't start going "it has a masive scren!!!!111 OMG!1"). I want something original, fresh and entertaining.
The DS will have much better multiplayer hardware and games, can't wait to be sitting in class playing someone across the building at mario 64X4.
And about PSP having "multimedia capabilities", are you really willing to pay £35 for another copy of a DVD you already have, just so you can watch it on a small screen?
And by the way, the DS you've seen is just a prototype, I'm sure the final thing will have a much nicer design. At least it doesn't have the PSP's pathetic attempt at a D-pad!
