I hope that this proves my theory that the PSP (Playstation Portable) poses no real threat to us as a community - i.e. can't be used for emulation or homebrew stuff....

I hope I'm right! :D

I was searching for a new mp3 player... and somehow got side tracked.

I'm one of those who read a recent /. post and thought 'kewl!'

Emulators first, movies 2nd, not disapointed :)

PSP aint a worry, ill buy one, but no way will it replace my GP :D

Emulators, movies, mp3, text, OS', and to start coding at some point

Almost voted deving, but I did get if for emus, and got into deving later, so I voted emus :D

Bought it for gameboy emulation - which ain't ideal - and the prosepct of SNES emulation - which is looking brighter and brighter....
Since then, I've pretty much given up on Gameboy emulation, principally because there's so much else I can do with it.

There should be a "Homebrew games" option too, btw - there's some stupidly good ones out there, although prolly not enough to sell one on their strengths alone...

Stupidly good ones?
Well - Arcano, Tailgunner, World Of Picross GP to name but 3... and there's LOTS more :)

Coz it the shit......

I really like the home brew emulation scene....plus the geek factor...hehe.

Well, technically I haven't actually got a GP32 yet (but the money has been drawn from my credit card, so I guess you can say that I've bought one) but it should arrive soon.
Anyway, the main reason for purchase was to develop on it (and the fact that Mithris and A_Lee_N kept bugging me to buy one! :D)

yeah, it shouldn't be threat to a community like this.....i bought my GP32 for emulators and the development scene mainly (it's just like a mini-Amiga community :p)

however i most certainly will be getting a PSP when it comes out (and i don't care what anyone says :p)

every machine out there has at least 1 or 2 killa games on it which make it worth getting, and i'm sure that will eventually have a few

also i reckon SOMEHOW somebody will manage to port some emulators across to it aswell.....they always do :D

time will tell though - for now, nothing can compare to my GP32 handheld-wise, but next year will be a different situation.....either way, there's nothing wrong with having both! (after all i have more than one pocket :p)

Mame, mame, mame, mame, baked beans and mame...

IIRC, the PSP will have a memory stick slot. Emulators for it could be a possibility.

The memory sticks are going to be used for saved games, just like a PSX memory card.

I bought mine for emulation, Commodore 64 and Atari 2600 specifically, with hopes of NES emulation (that seem to be coming true).

I live in an area where public transportation simply doesn't exist, so I rarely watch movies or listen to mp3s on my gp32. The best I get is making my wife drive me around, and playing games while sitting in the passenger seat.

Who picked 'Commercial'?

go on, own up :) are you disapointed or have you found your way from that to the delights of Emulation :D

Yeah, they are *DESIGNED* for that, but some nice hacking should allow emus and such. I would imagine Sony intends for MP3s and vids will play off the stick too. They are talking about this being an "entertainment" (not just game) unit.
