What are you playing this weekend/these days?

I wish, I'd be playing on a more performant system. I'm really in no rush and first I want to better understand what I like about the new alternative and what not so much and I'd like to pay less than what's the asking price.

Apropos topic. I had finished Shadowrun Returns. It was a nice story, though it felt overall a bit smallish or short - in terms of story and in terms of complexity. The score got annoying rather quickly. Thus I turned the music down.
Now in Shadowrun Dragonfall. More engaging/making me more interested in the content. Music is way better, but unfortunately it bugs sometimes and plays more than one track at the same time - can't tell, if it's just two then or more. -> Turned down the music. The stopping when walking against obstacles even if it's at an angle is still there, but it's less pronounced, or I got better at working with that. It also seems fuller, not so smallish. There are more proper NPCs, not just mainly cut-out cardboard figures. I guess, there's more dialogue is what I mean. I don't know how far I'm through, but it's definitely the better game

I'd been on Wii, completely satisfied. I just found out how to force games into progressive scan so now they all look brilliant with OSSC. I've finally got Super Mario Wonder but I do want to finish Super Mario Galaxy 2 which I just started again.

I still have the mentality that your game selection reflects your personality. Remember Nintendo Vs Sega. I find the games I really like and keep playing them, treasure them forever. I love SMB3, SMW, SMG2 all equally, with all my heart. Nothing can change this. I'll play the latest Mario's and Zeldas eventually. But I'm on SMBW and I really want to get to Yoshi's Island, which I have never completed.

I guess that the other thing that nags at me. The SM one on Switch I never played to the end, neither the first Switch Zelda. The second Switch Zelda I played even less. MKD8 I had gotten together with the Switch, early on. I think I still havn't finished getting a 3-star rating (or what it was) on every map in the lowest class, let alone any other class.

Edit: Just got the final suit I think. It's silver and thankfully lets you teleport.

... and done! On to part three.

I feel bad / guilty I abandoned MP on that annoying ice boss. I could never (so far) get into Metroid (nor Castlevania) but I appreciate they are beautiful games with amazing ambiance. I'll play MP4 (with joycon mouse).
Post automatically merged:

Just completed the original Donkey Kong Country. It was easier & shorter than I remember but excellent as ever. Love the graphics, music, fast gameplay and great apes. I played on MiSTer with the SNAC low latency adapter and an original controller. I think that helped as it's rather reflex oriented.

I never finished 1 either. Gave up when collecting the keys towards the end. Was pretty annoyed at that part repeating in 2. Teleporting made it better. Erroneous key location entries in a few walkthroughs made it much worse. :'(

Edit 2025-06-20:

Prime 3 is a big step up. I'm at 45 % progress.
Improvements in controls:
- a bit of auto-targeting when firing at tiny swarming mobs,
- less push-back from hitting walls when using spin-attack and
- a bit of help with vertical alignment to the corridor levels when wall jumping
But: New challenges. I had to go from joypad to kb/mouse several times. Since it's a Wii game there's a bunch of mini-challenges that revolve around the pointer. Most of those, whether in combat or outside, I could do with the gamepad. But there's one that is related to traversal on one of the maps and it's timed. If you fail, you fall and have to restart.
Another change in controls would be the missing IMU. But thankfully the inputs related to waggling around the wiimote are taken care of by primehack, as it reduces them to a single directional input. Neat.

While the basic structure of the game stays roughly the same it's packaged much more interestingly. I feel more like a space bounty hunter in this game by
- interacting with fully voiced characters like federation forces and other hunters
- interacting with my space ship, it's smartly integrated as save point/recharge station, "teleport" between levels and part of the progress gating. And I even felt for Samus' ride on at least two occasions. Pretty good for something that doesn't get to have a personality. Or maybe I'm too much into space ships.

It looks stunning. Sure, "AI-enhanced" upscaled textures in 1440p on an OLED. But it has a timeless visual style that is taken to the next level with the amount of detail and sense of scale. I'm amazed this is a Wii game. Intricate mechanical and ornamental designs please my eyes.

Jury is still out on the gunplay gimmick.

Getting items focused in the scan visor is often wonky. But I guess that's an emulation thing.

I've played it recently on my SNES Mini and found the reflex-intensive levels (such as the mine carts levels) to be very difficult. If I have the opportunity I'll try to compare with my SNES and cart.
