What are you playing this weekend/these days?

Just completed this very fun game. Watched the film twice in the meantime too.

^ The Wii version of this is pretty good, too.

Edit: Oh BTW my cousin Günther - RIP - bungee jumped off that dam.

Recently finished Technobabylon in ScummVM. I have good memories of Gemini Rue from the same studio and I was a bit disappointed by this one, even if it's still a good game. The setting is interesting, the puzzles are great (except for one at the end of the game). They make sense without being obvious and they make you feel clever for figuring them out. The scenes are limited in scope so you don't find yourself with a truckload of items and a hundred locations to visit. The main problem I had was the story. The characters are ok but there's only one I really appreciated and the story never really caught me. I had memories of clever story telling in Gemini Rue but didn't find the same quality here.

And also finished The Case of the Golden Idol a clever investigation game that shows you a scene frozen in time and have you figure out what happened (most of the time "who killed who and how"). It's really good, some of the scenes feel very complex at first and then you start picking up on clues and piece things together. Some of the cases are pretty difficult but you always have everything you need (and sometimes even multiple clues for the same thing) to point to the right conclusion and never feel like you have to guess what the designers were thinking. There is also a hint mechanism but I haven't used it. I was just given the answer to one scene because of a bug (but I was getting there anyway).

Yesterday I was again surprised at how scan-line emulation in OSSC improves graphics imo. I'm usually not one for "effects" and back in the day all I craved was blocky - not blurry - pixels. But some GC games defintely look better.

Then i saw this yesterday on YC The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art - https://www.datagubbe.se/crt/

I completed Luigi's Mansion on GC. First off, this is a childrens game. It is a sub-tier nintendo game and cannot compete with the best. The flashlight+vacuum (dual analog) mechanic is what the game is all about and it's well done and visually appealing. I also like the analog synth style sounds and the game is very cute. But it's very annoying with all the walking through the mansion and clicking through cutscenes for minutes to retry bosses. The puzzles are just ok. I would only recommend this game if you have time to burn, there are dozens of better GC games to play first. 7/10

Did start yesterday finally with some of my cheap bought Bethesta Games:
Allthough Ride4 is not from Bethesta, it was just 4 € on Steam ..

I have a bit Experience with Biking, bevor my E-Bike Accidend i drove lots of E-Bike, and i had allmost 20 Years an 125 ccm Scooter, but they did not prepare me for this Racing Experience:
I did need a bit to get used to my Bike to pass the first Test : 1 Round in under 1:20 Minutes .. but my Virtual Bike Driver did a lot more Crashes than i in my whole Scooter Carriere.. ^^
Maybe i will come back to this game some time..

Then i did start with Wolfenstein 1 the New Order
A whole other Genre, the Atmosphere is quite deep, the presentation quite Entertaining, its much more cinematic than these low res Videos they had on Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the Shooting is not that Fast as its an different Engine than the Quake3 Engine from RTCW, Akimbo Shooting with 2 Sturmgewehrs is quite fun, and i allready know that they will have this much more extreme on Wolfenstein2..
Its fun, and as the law got changed in Germany, this is the International Version where the Overboss will have the correct Beard..

I got the Storymode until the Point where im whit Anja and her Parents on the Way to Berlin to free the Restistence from the Prison Eisenwald ..

As its the International Version, the Charakters speak in there own Language: BJ Blaskowiz and his dudes in English, the Nazis in German , and some time also in English to tell the Player what there Evil Plan is, which is a bit whyrd as im speaking German, so i understand the Nazis some times more than my Friends ...
Its like in "Die Hard" where the German Terrorist where speaking German at the US Original Syncro to let them sound much more Evil .. i did watched this Movie also in English..

(In German Bruce Willis says "Jippijajä Schweinebacke" (Porkcheek) which sounds much more friendly than "Mother##a" )

My Plan is to resume this Game tomorrow in Handheld Mode on Win Mini, lets hope its will put the Screen Automatically to the Build in Screen
Then i will Download finally Skyrim whyle i play Wolfenstein, i wonder how this will play on this thing, got this Game also quite cheap..

MASS EFFECT: Andromeda

I finished it, and I have to add things to what I already told before.

At the end of the game there is a very good explanation about how it is connected with the original trilogy (or at least the first two games, because... NO SPOILERS), and I liked it.

It's massive, required me almost the same time of the three games of the original trilogy put together !!

Exploration was beautiful, with puzzles here and there, the planets were really good to the eyes and felt more lively than in the previous games, also was possible to see moving objects very far.
There are a lot of optional mission that are almost all the same between all the planets, those could be repetitive, but well, are optional and I actually like to have some reasons to keep driving around the planets.

In the end it was a great experience, the coolest story part starts very late.

It's a very good game were they really tried to add the recipes of the first trilogy (with also a lot of references and easter eggs), while making it a REAL open world game, and in my opinion it turned out very well.
There is only something that somehow didn't work well... I didn't felt the same attachment with the game characters as it was with the ones on the first trilogy... anyway I'm not sure what was wrong, the backstory and interactions for everyone of them was there, them also were always speaking with each others during the missions or even while just driving around, and was everything interesting and characterized very well... but still...
I can only guess that all the massive cinematic (and static dialogs) parts of the first trilogy did the work better...

ALIEN VS PREDATOR (2010)

I didn't like it very much and I'll have to compare it to the two previous titles...

The first game AVP (2000) was almost perfect for me, the colors made it almost photorealistic at the time and the three races were well designed.
The second game AVP 2 was A LOT more cinematic, and while I didn't like the ANIME style, the interconnected campaigns that shared the same story were really cool.

Now, AVP (2010) it's somehow a mashup between the previous two, but designed somehow like a sequel of the AVP (2004) Movie.

These are the things that the devs did wrong:
  • As HUMAN you can carry only 3 weapons (2 if you have a smartgun), and one of them is the handgun, that can't be removed.
This limit makes available bullets low, so they added infinite bullets to the handgun ...
The PULSE RIFLE, one of the MAIN weapons of the franchise, it's the worst of all the available weapons ...
The recharge / fire time of all the weapons is too slow and it's almost always required to MELEE COUNTER the ALIENS !! This was a possibility even in previous games, but it was a last chance, because the ALIEN acid could have killed instantly and with Predators was almost useless. Here the HUMAN can MELEE combat with both the ALIENS and the PREDATORS, also because it can regenerate (a third of) health more fast than both the other races together !!
  • As PREDATOR the new MELEE systems is better, since it uses it a lot, but the cinematic stance while taking trophies leaves you for too much seconds uncovered and can't be interrupted, so if someone starts shooting at you, you can only look at your health going down while cleaning the head of your last victim.
The weapons are overpowered, at least the cannon uses energy so must be used wisely, but the spear is a one shot kill with almost infinite range without the need of energy, and it magically returns to you in 1 second... at least the disk has a limited range, but ALWAYS returns to you... instead in the first game the disc could remain stuck sometimes and you needed energy to get it back...
It can "call" a human at a time where you want, tricking them with the synthesizer, and they happily goes exactly where you want them.
The jump system is cool, it can really give the sense of strength and athletic skills of that race, but feels to be on rails.
  • As ALIEN the MELEE system is useful, but the COUNTER doesn't fit very much this race for me... it should have had only BERSERK attacks in my opinion, or at least evasion instead of counter.
The new system to climb walls / entering tunnels is bad, like REALLY BAD... you always have to push a button to change wall or enter a tunnel or jump down... on some walls the same button is a toggle kind of command, on some others you need to keep pressed it... many times I wanted to just jump on top of something but instead I was just starting to climb... in the first game it was so damn simple, you just kept pressed a key to stay grabbed and that's it !!
It can "call" humans almost exactly as the Predator, just shouting and waiting in the shadows for the prey.
In general I think that the gameplay is not good mostly for the quantity of buttons used... too much and too tricky.

The story is somehow cool, the three campaigns shares the same story but with different point of views, so you'll have to play all of them to see the big picture.
Anyway the singleplayer game is short, and the maps are the same for every campaign...

The photography is less realistic than the first game but less ANIME then the second game.

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim (GPD Win Mini)

I did start whit an Dark Elf Charakter, i know they are just the peaple of Morrowind, but in my Roleplay its an Albae, as im still in the Fantasy Books of Markus Heintz where they are the enemys .. (they make Art of Human Bones and Flesh, how cool is this? )
After the allready from the Goat Simulator reused Intro Sequenz on the Horsecart to my Execution on Helgen, and (Surprise!!) An Dragon Attack i played until i did discover im an Dragonborn , and bevor i did start this long journy to the Grey Beards ....

Beside this i did clean up a few castles and dungeons: 2 Points on the Fightning Magic Scill Tree to increase my Double Wieldet Magic Effectness, did allready seems to be quite OP .. but maybe its just on this few first Game Hours where the Enemys are still weak..

The Game contains quite some Mods which are included in this Edition, but i had to discover first how to enable these Mods (you have to download them from the Ingame Menue which takes quite some time) ..now i have a + 75 Carry Amount Backpack, the other stuff are still to discover as the Weekend was not long enough..

Did continue whit Skyrim last weekend: I made somehow the whole Mage Academy Questline, became Arch Wizzard, but had to discover that Arcano, the not that Sympatic Mage was the Bad Guy in this Questline, how surprising.. , it did contain the discovery of 2 Dungeons so not the right Questline for Outside Gaming allthough its play quite nice on the Handheld even as an PC Version.. , but bevor i did enter the second Dungeon i did ran out of Lockpicks, so i did start the Thiefs Guild Questline so im booth the Arch Mage of Winterhold and an Thief ??
Im not that good in Stealth Gameplay but Skyrim got an Sneaking Mechanic that makes it quite Fun
After i did restock my Lockpicks i did end the Mage Academy Questline..
But as i can Play Skyrim quite long i did decide to continue the next Gaming Session whit the Wolfenstein Games, these should hopefully take not that long as Skyrim..

Also i did red the News Today that they have now the whole Resident Evil Franchise for Sale at 30 € the whole Pack, from Part 1 HD until the New Game whit this funny Vampire Lady whit the Big Hat ^^

The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim (GPD WIN MINI)
After i got an Bug where the Guards in Solitute did attack me and i was also attacket by an Imortal Assassin, i did a Restart yesterday: i allready made the Mage Guild Questline this Year so i want make them in this Run again .., so this time im an Femal Kajiit, i think i will use Unarmed Attacks as they seems to be fun but will go to smithing and Heavy Armor, im now on the Werwolf Questline in Whiterun, and did also discover a big part of Skyrim .. also did decide that i will not trigger the Dragonatacks yet, so the Main Quest will have to wait until im done whit lots of Sidequests ..
