MASS EFFECT: Andromeda
I finished it, and I have to add things to what I already told before.
At the end of the game there is a very good explanation about how it is connected with the original trilogy (or at least the first two games, because... NO SPOILERS), and I liked it.
It's massive, required me almost the same time of the three games of the original trilogy put together !!
Exploration was beautiful, with puzzles here and there, the planets were really good to the eyes and felt more lively than in the previous games, also was possible to see moving objects very far.
There are a lot of optional mission that are almost all the same between all the planets, those could be repetitive, but well, are optional and I actually like to have some reasons to keep driving around the planets.
In the end it was a great experience, the coolest story part starts very late.
It's a very good game were they really tried to add the recipes of the first trilogy (with also a lot of references and easter eggs), while making it a REAL open world game, and in my opinion it turned out very well.
There is only something that somehow didn't work well... I didn't felt the same attachment with the game characters as it was with the ones on the first trilogy... anyway I'm not sure what was wrong, the backstory and interactions for everyone of them was there, them also were always speaking with each others during the missions or even while just driving around, and was everything interesting and characterized very well... but still...
I can only guess that all the massive cinematic (and static dialogs) parts of the first trilogy did the work better...
ALIEN VS PREDATOR (2010)
I didn't like it very much and I'll have to compare it to the two previous titles...
The first game AVP (2000) was almost perfect for me, the colors made it almost photorealistic at the time and the three races were well designed.
The second game AVP 2 was A LOT more cinematic, and while I didn't like the ANIME style, the interconnected campaigns that shared the same story were really cool.
Now, AVP (2010) it's somehow a mashup between the previous two, but designed somehow like a sequel of the AVP (2004) Movie.
These are the things that the devs did wrong:
- As HUMAN you can carry only 3 weapons (2 if you have a smartgun), and one of them is the handgun, that can't be removed.
This limit makes available bullets low, so they added infinite bullets to the handgun ...
The PULSE RIFLE, one of the MAIN weapons of the franchise, it's the worst of all the available weapons ...
The recharge / fire time of all the weapons is too slow and it's almost always required to MELEE COUNTER the ALIENS !! This was a possibility even in previous games, but it was a last chance, because the ALIEN acid could have killed instantly and with Predators was almost useless. Here the HUMAN can MELEE combat with both the ALIENS and the PREDATORS, also because it can regenerate (a third of) health more fast than both the other races together !!
- As PREDATOR the new MELEE systems is better, since it uses it a lot, but the cinematic stance while taking trophies leaves you for too much seconds uncovered and can't be interrupted, so if someone starts shooting at you, you can only look at your health going down while cleaning the head of your last victim.
The weapons are overpowered, at least the cannon uses energy so must be used wisely, but the spear is a one shot kill with almost infinite range without the need of energy, and it magically returns to you in 1 second... at least the disk has a limited range, but ALWAYS returns to you... instead in the first game the disc could remain stuck sometimes and you needed energy to get it back...
It can "call" a human at a time where you want, tricking them with the synthesizer, and they happily goes exactly where you want them.
The jump system is cool, it can really give the sense of strength and athletic skills of that race, but feels to be on rails.
- As ALIEN the MELEE system is useful, but the COUNTER doesn't fit very much this race for me... it should have had only BERSERK attacks in my opinion, or at least evasion instead of counter.
The new system to climb walls / entering tunnels is bad, like REALLY BAD... you always have to push a button to change wall or enter a tunnel or jump down... on some walls the same button is a toggle kind of command, on some others you need to keep pressed it... many times I wanted to just jump on top of something but instead I was just starting to climb... in the first game it was so damn simple, you just kept pressed a key to stay grabbed and that's it !!
It can "call" humans almost exactly as the Predator, just shouting and waiting in the shadows for the prey.
In general I think that the gameplay is not good mostly for the quantity of buttons used... too much and too tricky.
The story is somehow cool, the three campaigns shares the same story but with different point of views, so you'll have to play all of them to see the big picture.
Anyway the singleplayer game is short, and the maps are the same for every campaign...
The photography is less realistic than the first game but less ANIME then the second game.
