Waiting For My Gp32

Hey guys! Just came back for the first time in forever, and read through some of the reviews I wrote back in highschool. Sitting in my home office, and my GP32 BLU is still a mainstay on my desk. Though, I haven't changed the SMC's contents since 06 or 07, so it's pretty much just loaded with DrMD and a bunch of F-Day emulators. This thing even survived a bad run in with a spilt beer back when I was in college and it's still going strong.

Hi guys, I've not done much with my GP32 but still develop for GP2X.

I've got vAtari for the GP32 which i released sometime ago, an Atari 2600 emulator - if you're into that sort of thing.

I don't think people should give up their handhelds just because something newer comes along. The newer things aren't often better.

The new android and ios devices really are bad for retro-gaming. Sure the hardware is great but the it's lacking one very important thing - controls.
I find that MAME sucks if all you've got is a touch screen.

So that's one compelling reason.

Merry gp32 xmas everyone :)
[doublepost=1451032878,1451016993][/doublepost]I'm going for a full set of commercial gp32 games, it'll take me years but I'll get there. Santa brought me my amazing green gp32 to me this mornng. ....best present ever ! :)

Merry xmas for everyone on the "new" boards. Can't believe it's been so long!

Yep, touchscreen devices aren't good for arcade games.
I tried the Sonic 2 version on Android... I died in the first level, something that didn't happen the last 10 years!

And R-Type is no better... how can you play R-Type with touch controls? :)

Yes... GP32 was long ago... I should really look up my very first post here :
It's where I started with homebrew gaming :D

A fantastic game.
I even tried to contact the authors for a possible Pandora port, but never got anything back. :(

Virtual Spagetti were always impossible to get ahold of... when I did the interview years ago, I contacted Shibuya Games and they passed off my question to VS and got responses back and added to it/filled in things more relevant to the production side.

That's sad... I should release a cracked version, maybe they'll get in contact with me then

Here's a pic of my gp32 game collection so far.....

I have another on its way it's just got to get through customs.

Absolutely agreed on physical controls, they're essential for many games that weren't originally inspired by touchscreen/sensor control ideas. Personally I've had a lot more joy with things like the Archos GamePad2 and the Nvidua Shield Tablet + controller than with any pure touchscreen device.

Also some simple old games.... Ah, maybe it's nostalgia but I keep wanting a perfect Android version of Blocked and of the old Microsoft Pocket PC version of 'samegame' - jawbreaker. Which I guess is whyvemulation is so popular - 'similar to' remakes often don't quite capture the original flavour.

I seem to remember a cracked version of blue angelo swimming around somewhere...i could never find anywhere to buy it.

Well, Cracking games using the GeePee32 emulator was pretty easy - everyone could do this himself if he owned the original game.
And as online bought games are bound to one machine and games on cards were bound to the SMC card where they came on, I cracked them for myself in case a GP32 or the SMC card failed.
I never gave them away, just created my own personal backup :)

True (not that i tried cracking anything)...but i seem to remember comparing two versions of little wizard (for curiosity) after i bought it online and had to return the gp32 and repurchased it again for the new replacement gp32.

I just remember stumbling upon the unofficial versions a few years after i stopped regularly using the gp32 (after i broke the battery door clip / had a hard time finding new cheap smc's).

Yeah, first game I cracked myself using geepee32 was Raphael, just incase my smc died as it was the only one I didn't see floating around on the internets... I unfortunately got over half of my collection without the boxes.

Tanglees Magic Square is so addictive with it's weird music and simple gameplay :p

So many good games were FunGP/JoyGP only too, I have a friend who bought a GP32 off of me just to play pinball dreams :p

Fairly sure that the european releases got an update/new box...
