the lucasarts games have fantastic graphics, Day of the Tentacle was made by some pro illustrators like Chuck Jones. Also Monkey Island and a load of others - they're also brilliant games if you're into that sort of thing..

then puzzle mix is simplistic looking but pleasing to the eye

Raiden on GP Engine is a good looking blaster

oh then there's R-Type 3 on the snes

Get yourself King of Fighters 91 (version 3) downloaded with a few extra characters. Got the best 2D graphics on the GP in my opinion, some of the fighters are massive.
