This past Friday, 1.0 of Zelda Solarus DX was released. I was about to compile it for the pandora, but realized it was only in French at the time. Anyone here know French and English and willing to help in the translation effort?

Too many faulty software, Christopho has become involved now and is taking efforts straight through git now.

id be surprised if the france native, that ported the other 4 zelda games to pandora, isnt already working on this

I can help, my native language is french but I know english very well too.

Would be glad to help.

Throw me a PM at any time.

Je ne parle pas Francais. C'est tragiques. Si sebt3 ne fait pas, je ne sais pas nous allons trouvez quelqu'un que va aider. :(

Je parle francais couramment, alors pour moi ce serait un plaisir d'aider..

Redonne moi des nouvelles

I could help some but my french isn't the best, I am still learning it.

If sebt3 really is working on this, then we are off to a good start. Not sure the best way to get colaboration on this, but maybe each interested party take a section of the language file.(i think it is divided into treasure descriptions and dialog) The file should reside in(from memory) quest/zsdx/data/language/fr. There are two files, one for game items and one for text/dialog.The item one is fairly short but the text one is about 5000-6000 lines(in sets of three). Those files replace the demo files in the en directory(aka, delete all the files already there since format changed a bit.)

So far, interested parties are:

shinifish

JeFF

WizardStan (seems I don't catch subtle hints)

Reyhn?

sebt3?

If people need any more direction/help please let me know and I'll help where I can.

p.s. I will say I originally tried being lazy and google translating the files using a program I wrote to parse out text lines, but let's just say the quality was laughable at points.

I was subtly suggesting that I am fairly well spoken in French as well :p

My vocabulary has suffered greatly from nearly a decade of disuse, but that's what online dictionaries are for; my grasp of grammatical structure is still fairly strong.

Okay, I decided to set up public etherpads for people to translate as time allows. The important lines in the longer dialog file one ones without a "#" in front of them.

Items file: http://beta.etherpad.org/p/AS4rNyqfQo <- should be finished

Dialog file: http://beta.etherpad.org/p/5xvxfyWK8s http://piratepad.net/05kIAWmc1n (was told by webmaster of etherpad.org that the site should not be used for actual content as it is used for development. Moved to another etherpad site.) (seems things keep disapearing..lets try google docs)

https://docs.google.com/document/d/12kCZt1VEFROD8x4vOYwztpooMPXEkqBfO1UR0lj1soI/edit

Once these are done, I will insert them into the English folder and will get a copy of this game going.(along with submitting the work back to Christopho on github)

Also, please identify yourself in the etherpad(top right) so we can keep track of who is working there.(you can use your forum name.)

OK I'll give you some help when I find the time, so we just have to edit the dialogs that's it ?

I saw someone put the translations beneath the french sentences; so I'd better wait confirmation ^_^

By the way, it seems some lines are duplicated ... especially ones about the "Flacon Magique", "Potion rouge" etc. I had to stop a script because firefox was in trouble  , maybe that's the cause.

Hi,

Thanks for your contribution to the translation!

Reyhn: the lines about bottles are duplicated (sorry) because there is four bottles in the game and the engine sees them as four independent inventory items.

I have just updated the documentation about translating the game:

- How to translate the game: http://www.solarus-e...ranslation.html

- Specification of the language-specific files: http://www.solarus-e...log_syntax.html

So you don't have to translate the French comments that specify the syntax in the files themselves.

You can reuse the work that was done by Guillaume for the demo version two years ago: https://github.com/c...nguages/en/text.

But the format of files has changed a little and the quest also has changed, so strings and dialogs will have to be picked one by one.

Guillaume was planning to do the translation soon, so I guess he will help you.

PS: as you will need to test the game in detail to make sure there is no mistake, you should enable the debugging keys. To do this, if you use cmake, add -D DEBUG_KEYS=ON to your cmake configuration. If you don't use cmake, you have to define the preprocessor constant SOLARUS_DEBUG_KEYS. The main debugging keys are:

- Ctrl: traverse walls

- Shift: skip dialogs

- F1/F2/F3: skip the title screen and load a savegame

- P and M : add/remove hearts

- O and L: add/remove rupees

- numeric pad digits:: change the tunic, the sword and the shield

The big file with dialog takes time to load so firefox may ask if it should stop it loading. You should just hit continue and wait for the rest to load.

@Christopho: I haven't mentioned the images from the translations docs because I think I checked and the images already translated from the demo should work.

@JeFF: I noticed you put the translation at the end of the line. Unless you are unsure of a translation made, just replace it inside the quote marks. Just make sure any change still fit inside the char limit showed by the |---| above the lines.(looks like usually 20 letters)

Allright, will continue the work tonight, but wanted to be sure that my translations were fine before replacing the actual french ones.

The limit is 23 characters for normal messages and 20 characters for a message with an icon. See the doc to be sure.

I'll certainly need help, seeing the HUGE amount of text that I need to translate it might take me almost an entire week to finish it...

@Eyecreate You could rename this topic with : NEED TRANSLATING HELP...

That could help!
Done!

Also, I went through the translations you already did and made some small corrections and verified they sound correct.

I'm sure if we can get a few more people working on this actively, we can finish this out within a week.
