Three words

Yeah, I read some reviews and watched a couple videos of this - looks awful... I'd be interested to hear Prometheus' thoughts on it.. :D

-New "Easy Mode" for action game newcomers. This mode adds platforms to many of the "bottomless pits," allowing for quicker, easier level progression.
*Sigh* ... why not just add an auto-play mode: "Enjoy all the game content without the need to play yourself".

Double the resolution, throw some archivements in and sell again.

Nothing new...

Prometheus is immensely insulted, and more sure than ever that between moves like this and Capcom's current financial situation*, Capcom will be gone within the next couple of years if they don't turn things around. And they're showing no signs of turning things around - such is the result of the route of doing things the "industry standard way", of course.

*(Profits down 49% this year, earnings down 28% this year, their only real earner this year has been a Smurfs Facebook game based around paying real money for in-game items, and their shares are down 18% over the last few months due to a number of their recent decisions including their appalling handling of MegaMan Legends 3 and its cancellation.)

Also, have you seen those stupid "challenges" (just another name for those immensely-insulting "achievement" things) in this game? Do ten wall-jumps in one session? Walk over all of the crumbling bits of road in the intro stage? Yeah, that's *REALLY* challenging.

And the option to pay real money to buy the upgrades you can find in-game? Equally insulting.

I can only hope that Comcept (Keiji Inafune's company) gets the rights to the Mega Man series once Capcom goes under (and if they continue on the route of following "the industry way", they will - they are a disrupted company that failed to adapt to the obvious market changes, and will now reap what they have sown). Mr. Inafune has expressed that he still cares about the series, so the chances of this, when the time comes, are very good to excellent. This, at least, is a good thing. :)

EDIT;

Double the resolution, throw some archivements in and sell again.

It's not double the resolution. They've done some vector tracing over some frames of the original sprites, but not all of them (the animation is VERY choppy and missing about 50% to 75% of its original number of frames). The backgrounds, they didn't even make *that* much effort on (it's just 2x SaI or Super Eagle applied to rips of the original, better-looking, SNES graphics). They've removed the scrolling. They've screwed up the audio cues. They've zoomed in the camera so that vital elements are completely out of your sight.

There is no excuse for any of it.

Hey, I got an idea:

What about remakes of the classic MegaMan games - and make the weapons you gain from the bosses only available if you pay for them :D

Oh my... Don't joke about it, ED. :( In all seriousness, they're probably planning exactly that.

With Mega Man 9 and 10, they charged extra for some of the main playable characters, who they withheld purely for the purpose of charging extra for unlocking them (the data already exists within the games that you've already paid for). They also withheld extra levels and bosses for the same reason.

Charging for armour in this X1 abomination is the next logical step onward from that, the Japan-only mobile telephone port of Mega Man X4 splits a game that once had two selectable characters into two different games (blatantly to eke out more money), and that is clearly the next step on from THAT, and you know as well as I do that charging for weapons will very likely be the next step on from those...

They've forgotten their craft.

Pay a dollar to beat the boss automatically!

50 cents to summon a "refill" drone to fill up your energy and weapon tanks! After we cut the weapon tank in half of course, and reduce the drop right of natural refills naturally.

We're going to be rich!

Couldn't they just wrap Megaman X around an SNES emulator and sell it on phones? Probably more popular.
Less chances for putting in "industry standard" "achievements" and charging for extras that way.

Capcom is currently huge on "Me too!"'ing. :p

It is, if you don't have physical controls.

...what was that? I though I had heard someone say "Zing!"...

Anyway, one of the best things about Mega Man is the replay value that has its core in the choreographability of the levels. Precise control (a requirement for choreographing) via touch controls is typically not possible in a game that wasn't made for touch controls. But Capcom is not stupid, so they probably know that, and I also think it's likely that they know they are putting some fans off. Which means that they probably are indeed panicking and looking for short-term profits.

Hopefully, this panic will result in new, interesting ideas.

Haha!

Sadly, there's a key point that's been overlooked here: They've placed platforms so that you can't fall through most of the gaps, too... :(

But Capcom is not stupid, so they probably know that
Whilst I'm never a fan of the "The company is stupid!" option with regard to things like this, sometimes I do have to wonder... :p

I mean, their handling of things this year is something I would have found to be embarrassingly inept when I was a child, never mind now. If someone like me can easily point out where they've been going wrong for several years*, then there are definitely quite serious problems.

*(The problems all seem to lead back to the point in 2007 when the current company president took his position, as does the mistreatment of the Mega Man series - 2007 was the last time a new Mega Man game was sold at retail.)

As an aside, I wonder how the shareholders are reacting to the fall-out? Most of the major ones are the company president's family, I'm told.

Also, I made a mistake on my numbers earlier - apparently shares are down 23%, not 18%.

and I also think it's likely that they know they are putting some fans off. Which means that they probably are indeed panicking and looking for short-term profits.

It doesn't seem to be changing anything, as far as I can see. They keep saying lots of hollow, empty things and then doing the exact opposite, whilst being too afraid to stray from their status quo of only wanting to serve

https://www.youtube.com/embed/9joAb4XMaUs?feature=oembed instead of the majority, and follow the mantra of "the industry", which as we can all see has only done them great harm thus far. (Somewhat related to that point, they ought to be ashamed to have said that they're proud of their support for the biggest-selling home-console of the generation. It was abominable, and the fact that they've publically proclaimed that they're proud of it says it all.)

I would seriously advise not to get your hopes up.
