Three words

The future of gaming...unfortunately :(

I expect to see a lot of crap like this in the years to come.

The industry we all know and love is just changing with the times and sadly it is often times not for the better.

A game like this could never get released 10 years ago by capcom, but this is standard fare on IOS now. Cheap, rushed to market crap that can pull in a couple of fast dollars because it has a name brand and it is cheap for consumers. Now don't get me wrong, there are some true gems on IOS, but they are far and inbetween.

Look at the VITA, it just released last week during the holidays in Japan, and it sold less than the 3DS did during the off season earlier this year, WTF?! 5 years ago the Vita would have sold out with lines around the blocks during this time of year. I don't see either of these systems doing as well as their previous models, which is a shame, because they are both very nice dedicated "GAME" machines(with true Fucking game controls). I can't stand virtual controls, but all those millions of Apple sheeps can't seem to get enough. I guess if I grew up in this day and age, I might feel the same way, so who really knows?

A crap version of Megaman X would have only been seen on the Phillips CDi, or some other crap system back in the day. Now, it can be sold on any phone and sell to a decent amount of consumers. This is only going to get worse before it ever gets any better.

Capcom, Konami, Bandai, ect., only really know how to do business one way, and the world gaming audiance is changing, and these guys just can't keep up. I am so tired of Metal Gear, Street Fighter, and the like. These companies have so much great talent, but sadly new IP's some times don't sell well, and that means they just keep going back to the same well over and over again.

Treasure was formed by guys at Konami who where tired of just releasing the same crap every few years(castle vania, metal gear, ect), and struck out on their own. Now they don't pull in the numbers that Konami does with releasing Metal Gear over and over, but they have released some of video games finest works over the last decade and should feel proud of that. You will never see that kind balls from any of the big players anymore. Hell, even Miyamoto San just keeps turning out the same Nintendo rehashes year after year. What was his last original idea, Pikmin? We all know he can do almost anything, and we still see the same games every year because that is what the company can depend on to sell well.

It's all becoming a HUGE joke really, and sadly I'm not laughing! :(

Yeah... if it wasn't that sad, it would be funny.

I'm currently replaying some of my favourite RPGs from PSX, PS2 and SNES.

Sadly, except for one or two decent RPGs per year, nothing good is being released nowadays.

What's next on the iPhone?

A Final Fantasy remake where you have to use real money to buy items and weapons? Or just to enter a new town?

Tetris where you have to buy each block individually (since it gets boring only to play with square blocks...)?

I'm personally waiting for an Atari 2600 E.T.-Remake... where you can buy the phone parts.

Once you get them all, your iPhone unlocks a number where you can call an answering machine that tells you a space ship is coming. Of course, the costs for that phone call is 10USD per minute. This is a call to outer space...

Giant sellers like Nintendogs, Wii Fit, and the like. :p I think he also may have had a hand in Aura-Aura Climber, too (worth grabbing, by the way), but I may be mistaken on this one as I can't seem to verify it and I'm not sure where I saw that said...

Interestingly enough, he's intending to get back to his game-designing roots and work on smaller, more interesting projects in addition to his current work, as of next year. That ought to be interesting - I always like when smaller projects get the attention they deserve*.

*(Can anyone here say that they didn't think that, say, Gumshoe, was cool, for example? Shame on you all if you don't even know the game. :p )

Also i hate dlc for games. I wanna buy a game play it.Finish it and buy a new game.I dont want to be playing the same game 6 months later.also codes that unlock special features in games that cant be used when you buy a secondhand copy. Games publishers do this deliberately because they say secondhand games sales hurt them financilaly.Bullshit. If you take a chance on a game cos its only say ten euros and then find that you love this game you are most likely to buy the sequel on the day of release. The secondhand market brings new gamers to franchises they may otherwise have overlooked.Kerrrching.

Yeah, he has released new IP's(so I can't really say he hasn't), but I personally don't really consider these products "Games", but they are very creative in certain ways, and do sell tons, but I'm looking for the next original game, with actual game play and not a music/pet/city sim. These games aren't really new ideas, just new to the wii. Hell, the NES had a ton of fitness games that used excercise bikes, and jump pads. And Nintendogs is just Tamagatchi done right. Still, Miyamoto brings that magic that only he can to these products, so they aren't all bad.

Now Gumshoe, that was an original game. ;)

The new retro is coming --

We play retro because we like simple yet skill games, or the retro styling, or the feel of the 80s/90s/etc, or whatever.

But someday we'll look fondly back and say "I remember when Starcraft 2 came out, that grand year, with Skyrim, Portal 2 and Deus Ex. I remember the last few years, before all games were Angry Turds."

The new retro is us playing Skyrim, forever, on DosBox7000, on our phones.

Sad times are ahead for us gamers.I consider myself very lucky to have found out about retro gems before it was too late, I could just imagine myself being like almost everyone else my age, who would actually buy this filth and then brag about how much of a 'retro gamer' they are. So much nerd rage incoming.

Well, but then again, OpenSource games are getting better and better, using classic gaming style, coded by (often) small teams.

For me, the OpenSource scene is similar to the early computer days. Less commercial shit, more fun on creating something others enjoy :)

So as long as we'll have some OpenSource gaming devices out there, we're safe :D

Well, just from the screens, the game looks nice to me. Ignoring the pay-to-win-thingy it could be a cool game and at least there is an official MegaMan Game for the Mobile plattforms. This game sureley could suit well on the Pandora imho, of course without all this micropayment stuff. And we would have physical Controls on our Handheld, another big advantage. :)

Well... play the original SNES one on the Pandora.

If you want nearly the same graphics, enable Scale2X ;)

Exactly. The biggest complaint is that they cannibalization the Megaman X for the SNES and appear to have botched it, though it was a pretty good Megaman game originally.

Every company now is trying to capitalize on the Farmville model for games, and it's a shame. Which is a good reason to stick to the indie and open source scene for games....

There have been a few of them, though. :p None of them have done well because they're all shoddy like this one - it's just that this one is attracting increased scrutiny due to Capcom's recent behaviour.

Accepting lazy, shoddy products is just encouraging more of them to be made. With any luck, this one will meet the same fate as its shoddy brethren.

Unfortunately for us fans, Capcom will probably incorrectly take failure of this abomination as a sign of the series not selling (they've firmly got "This is the industry way/the way the industry is going" goggles strapped to their heads, and currently can't see things in terms of what customers actually want), rather than due to its blatantly shoddy nature (just watch as this comment draws out shills  ). It's a lose-lose for us, whatever happens.

But at that point, as ED notes, you may as well play the original SNES version of Mega Man X. Even with the paid options removed, this iOS version is still massively inferior to the original for a lot of reasons already covered in this thread - such as the zoomed-in viewport, the removal of most animation frames, the ugly graphics, the messed-up music cues, the jerky scrolling, that platforms covering up gaps, the lack of all of the control buttons (Mega Man X used all of the buttons on the SNES' controller, not just two of them), and so on... All of the stuff that was so essential to the flow of the original version of the game.

So, How do they expect you to charge up, dash, and jump all at the same time on a touchscreen? there's no way that's possible.

megaman is a game where physical controls are NOT optional, they are required

Apparently, pressing the down direction causes you to dash...

I've heard of some folks who are very impressed by this, because they didn't realise that you could dash-jump off of walls in the original game, and think that it was an addition made for this title (even though it was a pretty important skill to master in the SNES original)...
