The Gaming Public's First Reactions To The Pandora

One question though: Why is it that you keep discussing people's mistakes instead of adding onto the established discussion?

Ummm seems a pretty odd question from someone who's last post started like this:

You guys need to get some of your facts strait.

I told my mate i wanted a pandora and showed him openpandora.org and he said "Nah man, get a psp" i told him that the pandora is so much more powerful and is way better at emulation than a psp and he responded with "But it's all about the image man"... Ridiculous

This made me laugh:

This is a machine that promotes stealing ageless games that could still make money for their home companies, and I say ban this sick filth.
It's like when you listen to a fantastic band/artist but it takes a while to warm to it.

How have friends around you reacted if/when you told them about the Pandora?

thats like saying:

Tape Recorders promote stealing quality content that could still make money for their home companies, and i say ban this sick filth.

that's just corporate views for you. preserving and making content/games you own more convenient and accessible != sick filth.

besides, the Pandora is just a computer. ban all PCs for the reason that timeless games can be stolen!!1

When it all boils down, this thing is made by gamers FOR gamers. You want a text adventure? Let's add a keyboard. Point and click? Touch screen is a good idea. Dual analog is a staple of first person shooters and nothing beats a d-pad for a level of Mario.

You will not sell this to a non-gamer, nor a brand fanboy. But those were sales you were never going to see anyway. In my opinion, this is distilled gaming. Welcome to the future.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, (Sy is my first Post, so i would like to say Hello with this :D )

ashes on my head but i've heard about two weeks ago the first time of this Pandora Thingy at all

After i've read the Specs i was so impressed that i had to sign up for the newsletter and line up for the pre-order (I Hope to get One).

I am born '69 and i love all the classic games. But from my point of view, this small Pandora is not only
a gaming handheld, since it can run Linux, has USB 2.0, Bluetooth, i don't need to repeat the specs. I am impressed.

So to keep it short, i think this is a change in Buisness. This is from my point of view the first time, that a product is designed by the wishes and demands of the customer (gamers or better... by us)
and the result looks great.
OK to be honest i also looked a little bit strange  when i've seen the Pandora the first time but the functional aspect is that counts and from that point of view it's perfect !!!

It took me a while untill i found out that this small device even has shoulder buttons ! As soon as i will hold that precious :pandora1: in my hands I will use my customised PSP only as GPS in my car. No need for me to use the PSP to play my favorite C64 Games anymore. HA , i will be even able to play All my Amiga Games and the old DOS Games. Maybe Tie Fighter ???? I am looking forward !!! and i hardly can't wait untill the 30th...

and of course i will pay into the Dev fund as well !

In a way the Pandora reminds me a bit of the history of the Commodore 64 which was, at its inception simply a box to give support to new video and audio chips developed for a cancelled gaming console. By then Commodore had purchased the chip company, and they were able to keep manufacturing costs low. Give a bunch of engineers everything they need to build a kick ass system, and they will.

The Pandora has a similar start, being a platform to support the new CPU/GPU etc... I see potential to repeat history. It has the initial niche market and cult following. All it needs is to grab the attention of mass media and the eventual backing of a lot of funding to mass produce it. Only thing is Commodore later involved their marketing department to aid in the design of subsequent systems, and the rest is history (Keep in mind that Commodore bought the Amiga Corporation who produced the computer)

hey

I also looked to see what folks from other websites and such had to say about the pandora a lil while back. Anyhows I also don't understand why some folks don't like the look of the pandora, I thought it looked great the first time I saw it :).

Anyhows looking back in time, who remembers the Gaken Super Cobra thingy?

I think it came in alot of different other shapes, sizes and colors, but the one I linked to is the one I played back in the day :). I tracked it down one day, I could hardly remember it but still managed to find the thing :). BTW, I mean just pictures and details of it, I don't actually have one.

Anyhows I didn't have one myself, my cousin did, but I thought this was a darn cool game, it had like green vector/line sorta graphics.

Umm, besides those little electronic game thingies with each graphic imprinted on the screen or whatever (I remember I had this cool baseball one), I think the first game I played was frogger and jupiter landing on a commodore v20. I remember we also had the sports game of this thing, the console was somelike one of these (again I could hardly remember, but managed to track it down :)). Anyhows these were my dads, and I remember first seeing the sd050 or whatever after getting it back from someone he loaned it to.

Anyhows I didn't really get into gaming until the NES and Gameboy :). I remember my bro wanted a Gameboy, and I didn't understand why cause I thought it was like one of those regular electronic thingies that could play different games, and I was quite blown away when I saw it had these smooth graphics and such :).

Anyhows I'll leave it at that, hehe.

I seem to think people have alot of different reasons for getting the pandora, I will just be looking to make and play original games and hope this sorta thing takes off. I think it's cool because unlike the eeepc, you know everyone will have the same controls and so you can make specialised games and gameplay for the pandora :).
