Super Mario Bros on C64

I got a message saying my post was removed because links to roms, despite not being a commercial ROM, but i guess a grey area with unofficial ports.

Here's a link to csdb with detail about it, but no download, so should be OK?

Using all 16 colours?

You mean, these colours?

Big N is mean when it wants to. I still remember Giana Sisters...

Impressive stuff. It's got a bit more slowdown than the NES on levels 1-4 and on, and I'm not completely convinced that collision detection is working, but getting it to run at all that well is still deeply impressive, and on an underclocked european spec machine as well!

The Big N is still trying to sell the NES game on its virtual console though I assume. This is actually good enough that it could cannibalise sales of that, perhaps running as an image on a C64 mini or a rPi or something.

i kinda figured this would happen...
S[obscenity-removed-for-PG13]t these F[obscenity-removed-for-PG13]s are fast!
It's not a surprise, though https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/09/nintendos-dmca-backed-quest-against-online-fangames/

@pmprog: The sound is amazing. Of course, with less channels, you lose a bit of the music when playing a soundeffect, but wow... It's very well done.
[doublepost=1556045546,1556045133][/doublepost]More CBM, this time, a tirade of well founded problems with the C64:

@FBnil , well, if you read the comments, it has a few extra sorted features based on the platform you use, such as turbo speed on c128 or the turbo chamaeleon, and dual sid support, so I'm guessing with the right setup, you'll probably have it all :)

I really need to try this out on my tc64 and find out

Is Nintendo really paranoid enough that they think someone would download and play a fan-made Commodore 64 port of SMB with serious lag issues before playing it officially? The kinds of people who would do that either already have the game in some form or weren't going to buy it anyway.

It's not about paranoia. It's about their intellectual property and copyrights. Add mentioned above, they are still selling it, so arguably any potential unlicensed competition is bad, especially if people like you look at it as a bad port, this has implication that Nintendo's game is of poor quality, despite they had nothing to do with it.
Also, Trademarks must be defended if they are to be retained.
The list goes on...

Looking at it that way, it does make sense. Still sad that something that required so much effort is destroyed by copyrights. It's not a bad port, just one limited by hardware.

This sounds incredibly stupid, even if true. Not sure if this includes non-profit-fan-projects. Oherwise we would not have any Star Wars or Star Trek Fan-Films.
I doubt Nintendo would (could) do anything if the coder was in China, what can they do then, instantly lose Mario as a trademark or really try to fight a lawsuit there?
The coder here spent 7 years into that project, impressive, can't even imagine how, first Super Mario is not that big or complex game, maybe he just had Weekends? Anyways, people should know Nintendo now and should avoid such projects if they don#t want to se their hard work shredded to pieces. But they have alot of other Options, how about Sonic and other SEGA games for C64? Would be an idea. :)

Well they did the same to Giana Sisters back in the day, so it's not really surprising.
