I've been using shell scripts executed on the GP2X and storing their output on SD cards to gather info about the GP2X and that seems to be how to interact with it, but it would be way easier not to much uber-cool if I could ust SSH onto it.

EDIT: telnet would obviously be easier and practical. I'm just so used to ssh I blurted it out instead.

Not much point to even considering it until we can actually hook the device up to the Internet. And so far there is no way to do even that.

Baby steps. We have to find out if it will even be possible to use TCP/IP to access the device in some form or another yet.

I'd settle for a remote console via usb cable...

i got a cable yesterday that has USB->Serial on one end, and on the other end (of the serial), an EXT2 connector .. yes thats right kids, the fabled Samsung E810 cable, soon (monday) to be re-purposed as a general serial i/o /dev/tty* worth running ppd on ..

one cable and its pinouts, my laptop, and a net-pref away from having a networked gp2x.

quit about the little things, yo! ;)

Or rather, getting it hooked up to any kind of network, period. I'm not sure if it is possible over the USB connection... it seems to register as a storage device (I also heard HID somewhere, not sure)

Once you've got a serial cable use something like hyperterm on windows or minicom on linux, watch the boot messages until the menu appears on the gp2x, then press ctrl-c to kill gp2xmenu and get control.

If GPH releases the source code to the USB Gadget system they're using, it may be possible to backport Linux 2.6's Serial Gadget code into it. With that you could log in to it over the USB cable. You wouldn't be able to watch the bootup process with it, tho.

I'll get the serial cable when I can afford it, but that'll be a long time from now.

GPH's kernel doesn't have support for networking. A flash with a custom kernel would be required to get cdc_ether/CDCEther (or usbnet if we can get a port of the 2.6 kernel) working.
