Some quick information regarding preorders

yay, signed cases!
maybe you can rent a dog named mitchy to 'sign' the case with a footprint too? ;)

As whe now have 451 Preeorders, and at the Time of this Newsposts it was 360, and 100 Missing for the Massproduktion Run, how about order the massproduktion next week??

He can probably do that for the main components, but he needs to wait for the 4G stuff. It would probably be best to give it at least a week so he doesn't have to order everything twice. Just be patient, and be happy that the Pyra will happen...now we just need to see what mobile versions there will be. Pretty sure EU one is happening, but he could still roll them all up together to cover MOQ for 3G and order early.

Yup, waiting is probably the best idea, especially since some more news pages should report about the preorders in a while (still waiting for golem.de).

Not likely. I had "hands on" at the Prototype at "lange Nacht der Computerspiele". There is still a way to go to tweak the molds until the cases are production quality. So no need to order parts too early. And to my information the other prototypes still need to be produced. So still patience is needed. And I'm thinking about a exchangeable logo with ED and HNS or at least tlak with HNS if the PCB of the LCD might be changed in a way, that I at least can think of a hack for an exchangeable Logo plate...
(components for the PCBs are often done yb the producer/populater of the PCBs, as I know)

I meant more the parts which got long leadtime like the CPU, the Cases are fast to produce..
So the cases could be ready just in time the parts whit the longest leadtime is ready..

I don't think I have read any coverage anywhere that doesn't have belittling and dismissive remarks in the comments section. It seems most people talking about it are against it or think it is pointless, so this kinda proves how small the niche is for it. Some focus purely on the specs, missing that if it sells well, and has a decent size user base, upgrades will probably come quicker. The one thing I would want to hold off on upgrading for a little while is the display, as I would like to see if we can get a proper landscape one, and maybe see what can be done about resolution without making games and everything so tying they are unplayable (yes, I know it won't be a problem for everything, but I don't want to think through them all to figure out what would work as it is and what wouldn't).

Back to the comments, I don't really care what people say and think as long as too many people considering one aren't pushed away, and I still get mine.

Oops it is basically stating the pyre will cost €300 ~ €400 and saying that's expensive but they cost a lot more than that!

That's not the worst part, the forum thread on the article is collapsing from criticism on the SoC. Someone even referred to a proprietary Intel based handheld running Windows 10 on Indiegogo (which imo stinks of vaporware and seems to implement many of the design misfeatures ED has avoided) as a comparable option. I don't think the mainstream media is ready for something like this. The Phoronix forum has a lot of know-it-alls for sure, but so does the rest of the internet.

Agreed. I find that focus on the specs quite interesting, as many people buy expensive phones with more horsepower than the Pyra, yet basically use these just for stuff like browsing, texting, playing
simple games and taking photographs. Those commentators will probably not differ much there; buying devices based on some specs rather than application possibilities seems quite odd to me.
But whatever, it's basically like you said, there's nothing to really care about as long as we get our Pyras :)

From the Pyra Pre-order FAQ

"Q: Weren't you the one who screwed up the Pandora??
A: Yes and no. I was part of the original Pandora team but I actually didn't do the calculations or handle the production, I only took care about the community.
When the UK company (OpenPandora Ltd.) gave up, I decided to try to keep going and took care of the production, which has then worked flawlessly. The same company which was producing the Pandora from then on will also produce the Pyra. "

ED, you need to change this, the beginning of your response should be no , not yes and no. I've seen people start to quote this. Not good IMO.

... I would love to preorder, but first I will have to convince my wife that this one is necessary for my survival... Maybe I´ll find a way.

There was a comment I read yesterday, I don't remember where, where someone said the resolution was too low to read text. I found that amusing, and thought of all my old computers and handhelds...surely those would be impossible to read text on if that statement were true. Anyway, you don't fix readability by increasing resolution...that only allows you to have more text on a screen of the same size, albeit smaller and harder to read, or have pretty, high res images and video, which would look nice...blah blah blah, I got at all that earlier.

I think the same person also said the Pyra keyboard would be unusable with Linux due to lacking certain keys (which are available on shoulders). Made me think of my own criticism of the keyboard on another device. We had so many people spend countless hours working on the keyboard that you can't really get much more of a general purpose keyboard designed to allow most computer tasks within the limits we were given. Sure, it may have been easier to have only a couple people work on it, but they likely wouldn't have been able to anticipate various use cases and problems they were creating for some users. Also, you can't treat a primarily thumb keyboard like a full size keyboard. For example, if control was in the typical location it would be harder to hit in combination with some of the other keys it is commonly used with.

Tell her you are going to hold your breath until she lets you order. Proceed to do so, passing out if necessary, then hold your breath again. There are less childish options, but air is required for your survival, and if you won't get very much of it because you can't order a Pyra she will surely see that you need to order a Pyra to survive. ;)

True, the wording was a bit bad, fixed that.
[doublepost=1462278310,1462278260][/doublepost]Some infos for everyone here:

I'm currently preparing a press kit with pictures and accurate informations.
I will send it to various newssites and you can also do that, as I will place a link to the press kit here.

Oo Didn't see that coming. On the other hand a news page once belittled that the Fairphone 2 would 'just' have a screen resolution of 1080p, I think (can't find it though)...
