hello

i have read on some articles that the nintendo ds 2 will be released next year, it is told that it will have a much better powerful than the actual model and an accelerometer.
if it is true i think some emulators could be really effective
who have some precisions about it?

No-one knows what it 'definitely' will or will not be like...but I sure hope that it has dual analogue sticks...
Perhaps, Nintendo can get the schematics off Craig and co. of Pandora's analogue sticks?

The other week, I read the following from Kotaku.com;-

Rumor: DS Successor Has Nifty Screen, GameCube Power

RPAD spent the entire Game Developers Conference trying to dig up information on Nintendo's successor to the wildly-successful DS handheld. His findings? Of interest. According to several third-party developers writer Raymond Padilla spoke with, the next Nintendo handheld sounds a lot like the current Nintendo handheld, only with better screens and better performance. Just like we asked for.

The key findings were:

- That the handheld's two screens - yes, it's going dual-screen again - are not only bigger, but the "gap between the two screens is negligible", meaning they can serve as either two separate screens or as a a single large display.

- It's got an accelerometer in it.

- It's expected, based on the handheld's dev kit, to have performance similar to a GameCube. Meaning it has similar performance to a Wii. Handheld Mario Galaxy and Wind Waker? Yes please.

- Many of the developers said their games would be finished towards the end of the year, suggesting a late 2010 release.

And that suggests a reveal of the console at this year's E3 Expo in Los Angeles. It's important to note at this stage that these are all unconfirmed rumours, but then, they do sound awfully sensible, don't they?

it's very interesting!!! thanks

(ps: your 3rd photo can't be a ds2 since it has not 2 screens  )

Thanks for the info Sony. I hadn't heard those particular details.
Imagine if N64 was playable on the DS2 like PSX is on the PSP...

I think having Gamecube level graphics and DS compatibility in hardware would be too much of a thorn in their side to be realistic. Basically, I don't think the DS type graphics can scale to Gamecube level. Having separate hardware for DS 2D and 3D in addition to Gamecube level 3D would be a massive waste of die space. They might go with software emulation, but I think that it'll be imperfect. But that fact hasn't stopped it from the route taken in PS3 and XBox 360.

Cortex-a9 + mali is probably easily beyond gamecube. Knowing nintendo the may go arm9+GPU with either a DS chip included (for compat, with arm9 acting like the arm5) or maybe an upgraded gpu compat with the DS. Whatever it will be, it'll be cheap so they can continue printing money with it. The DS hardware was already outdated crap when it was released.

Nowhere has Nintendo announced Cortex-A9 or Mali. Also please don't confuse "ARMv5", "ARM9", and "Cortex-A9." I explained in my post why I don't think Nintendo will want to include DS 3D chips for backwards compatibility, and why I don't think software emulation will be a desirable option for them.

Most of all, if this were really Gamecube level then I think they would have mentioned that instead of just talking about the 3D screen technology. When Nintendo doesn't say anything about capabilities you can start getting a little concerned, ie with Wii.

Apparently, it's going to have a Parallax Barrier LCD made by Sharp, so they are going to use a cheep method of 3D that is real crappy, it does not tolerate out of position vewing,if you move your head you loose the picture, very bad for that, Definitely crash and burn device, would not touch it with a barge pole, total crap

Sorry to disappoint people who can't play a handheld game without bobbing their head around.

Watch other people play a handheld with an LCD? Are you serious?

Put it this way - if you're within a viewing angle that doesn't have any distortion, which on DS's LCD is pretty narrow, then you're probably within an angle that can view 3D. Of course, it's probably pretty uncomfortable to huddle around someone playing a handheld in the first place, and I don't know about you but I don't like someone glaring behind my shoulder while I do something...

.

A large portion of my childhood, and that of my friends, was spent huddling together to watch people play pokemon on Gameboy Colors. I would hate for Nintendo to rob this generation of that. :p

The DS contained a gba chip which handled some functions when running in DS mode. This sets a precedent that they may choose to do something similar again. And my apologies for nor getting all the exact terminology and details correct on the arm stuff. You need to take a chill pill.

I need to "take a chill pill" for asking you to please not confuse the different ARM technologies? Speak for yourself. Some people just hate being corrected, I guess.

DS doesn't contain a "GBA chip." The GBA functionality is almost 100% provided by DS chips, parts that are used in the DS design while DS games are running. A successor with Gamecube like graphics, on the other hand, wouldn't be able to make good use of having a separate DS 3D engine, so it'd be there only for backwards compatibility and would be a waste of die space.
