SoC: Back and forth!

No it won't be pin compatible, the set of peripherals is totally different, the die size and likely packages are probably also totally different. This isn't a mobile SoC, it's for certain other high performance embedded markets. It doesn't even have a GPU or a display controller. http://www.ti.com/li...nk/66ak2h14.pdf
Doesnt matter I just had an orgasm. Floating point dsp.... oh god how cool :)

No, because that doest fit, nor fit the bill. A perfect modular solution could be done, but you are throwing out baby and bathwater in equal amounts on the way there. Modular emmc would be nice, being able to populate 8GB ram instead of buying modules is nice too for example.

Reposting my post from the SoC poll topic so that people who only follow this SoC topic can see this information:

I think based on the reply I got from Allwinner, it would throw us at least 6 months back, which is way too much.
EvilDragon, I have to say that I'm not really sure how the A80 could set you back 6 months.

I just found this video from CES of an interview with the AllWinner spokesperson that was at CES:

Do you want me to repost my reply telling you it's likely going to but a horrible pile of kang'ed source?

I had no idea I was famous. What did I do?
Nah, I just remember our conversations about the PND system and a possible replacement. Which btw, if you are still interested in that, they're having discussions about it over in the Pyra OS forum.

I am so not the right person for that. It's very likely that upon buying the Pyra I will port and install SailfishOS on it and, depending on the status of the closed Jolla packages, modify their desktop or roll my own; then proceed to write QML frontends for all my emulators and never speak of application packages again.

But I do still support the idea of one application = one file. I just don't think it's reasonably doable on the current linux ecosystem anymore.

Have you contacted Allwinner for clarification?
I know you said these things take time, but are you sure you don't need to recontacted Qualcomm?

Talked to a phd student who walked at IBM with friends in the Qualcom R&D department. He gave me some advice how to get faster answers from big companies ;) . Writing a PM to ED.

Why are we not looking at the MediaTek MT6592, its paired with a Mali-450 MP GPU

MediaTek has bought ralink, and they have metal everywhere. I dont know if they used that to integrate junk, but we can always do our own modem anyway.

Wifi is hard enough as it is.

http://linuxgizmos.com/mediatek-adopts-new-arm-cortex-a17/  This is a forecast on the MT6592 all other sources have it listed with powervr unfortunately. But that makes the choice easier ;)
