4 giga for better quality movies and remote controller for GP32. Sounds interesting ? Just got en email from Gomwing (thanks Gomwing), creator of GPCinema. A letter which made me jaw drop. Here is a fragment of it:

I recently make my new version of GpCinema It is in the firmware and support SDcard for better movie size and quality. here is my GP32 with SDcard support(max 4GB) and remote control. but it is difficult to modify the GP32. Currently contacting to Gamepark for the release of this stuff. [...]

Despite of movies... Imagine 4 gigas for all Bor mods, games, roms (of course only those for which you own an original arcade ;) , music and stuff. OMG! (hehehe)

Awesome!

And that after all the talk of "It`s impossible to surpass the 128mb limit".

I am more than interested: How is the SDcard mod done?

Very very cool :)
If this is really being released, a lot of emu coders will probably support this, too.
And probably even a firmware... slubman? Aquafish? Heeelllo? :)

damn cool :)
i wonder how he managed to get it compatible with existing stuff, iam sure there will be some compatibility issues, as long as he havent created some on the fly patcher or something.

Damn fine hacking !!!

I hope that the SD card can also be fitted externally via an adaptor - I would hate to have to hack up my GP32!!

I have the XD adaptor but the adaptor itself only handles 128Mb (Boo sucks)
however I prefer the XD card to the SmartMedia as it is a newer technology and is more available in the Photography shops (also cheaper)

Nice Job :)

He does say his GPCinema is in the firmware though, which probably means it doesn't support any other applications - you switch it on, and your in GPCinema. Hopefully, he'll patch (or create) a firmware that supports the SD card, and then release some source code to allow people to put it in there emu's etc.

I don't think the hardware itself would be too difficult - Smartmedia cards use an 8-bit bus that is connected directly to the processor, and SD cards use a 4-bit bus, so you can talk to them directly without any additional hardware. However, the firmware does require changes to talk to these cards, which is what Gomwing has done. Just need to hackup the original firmware, and then distribute some code so that existing emu's can be updated.

As some people may have known, I was trying to do a similar thing, but keep backwards compatibility (so 128mb for old apps, and ?Gb for new apps). However, I fried my gp32 in the process :(

And that after all the talk of "It`s impossible to surpass the 128mb limit".

It's still impossible. This is a completely new file system (and looks like new firmware), and therefore most likely not backwards compatible.

(If it is backwards compatible, then I'll bow down to Gomwings greater knowledge, and shut the hell up :) )
