Reordering Update

sorry, but now that the pandora site no longer exists. and now i find here your close to demanding bank transfers from those of us who wanted the security of credit cards in these times now screams that this project is a scam. At this point i will not send you one dollar till the credit card order page is up and we have a video of a complete unit.
Calm down man. Servers go down all the time. This forum used to go down three times a week before it melted.

Prefer does not mean demand. Chill out and wait for the CC link if it makes you more comfortable.

I understand that newcomers don't have the benefit of knowing this community. If you're up for some research, look at some of the more prolific software developers such as Notaz and Zodttd who are involved in this project (to name only two, of many). Their work reaches far outside the gp32x community, including platforms like the PSP and iPhone.

It it simply ludicrous to imagine that so many dedicated open source developers could be involved in a "scam" of this scale.

take a few steps back. then look at what you see, half the things that have happened point to them having no clue on what they are doing. the other half looks like stuff done in a scam. i do not give trust where it's not due, so i will wait till if the credit card page comes up and now also a video showing a complete, working unit not some random parts.

With the information available (IBAN, etc, etc.) if this were really a scam, wouldn't it be possible to report that in the case that we are all having our money taken for no good reason? And wouldn't we expect to see more issues if they were willing to do this to allow some to get away with it? I didn't have my CC misused, etc. so I really just don't have a reason to think this is a scam.

I know some may call it "too trusting" but I think on the flipside some are really paranoid when it's just not justified.

I'm completely and totally frustrated and unhappy with this situation, so don't get me wrong. I think this is ridiculous, but I have no reasons at all to believe this isn't anything more than it has been put to be, which is a really really stupid bank.

Now is the reason it's a problem rooted in the "financial crisis" instead of a bank that's scared of a ton of CC deposits on a small company with no device? I don't know that. I do think the financial crisis bit may be overplayed on the status updates, but I think that is really a matter of opinion and a bit of guesswork on craig's part more than any attempt to con everyone.

hey guys i ordered via visa debit but i still got a refund. paid $350ish and got $293.51 back. i thought debit was exempt from this problem.

No, it effects any order that was paid in any currency besides GBP. All orders were converted at the time to ~ 200GBP. Since then, the pound had taken a bit of a dive versus most other currencies, which is why that 200GBP now converts back to less USD.

Don't worry though, for your reorder, you will only need to pay the amount you were refunded.

I've warned them on this one on several occations. I've learned that paying by bank transfer is pretty common place outside of North America so I get where they are coming from. Something tells me that they have no idea how it looks from our perspective though. Let's hope that they aren't counting on the US and Canada too much to get to the 1800 non-credit card orders.

I've bought stuff from their shops, they seem trust worthy enough.

I can't wait until a final or near final Pandora is shown, just to shut all the non-believers up!

As someone from a european country where everything is done by bank transfers and most folks don't even own a credit card I can verify this cultural difference. On the 1800 number, I believe it was stated that before this post was even made 1000 people had already paid by bank transfer, which means they only need 800 more? Not sure though, I could be wrong.

Confirmed :)

About 1000. It needs to reach about 1800.

I don't know if I'd say everything[/] is done by bank transfers over there. It may be more common (and even very common in some areas) but since they haven't been able to secure the 40% yet, and at least half of their customers almost asuredly come from Europe, it kind of makes me think that there are those that are still unwilling to go that route. It's one thing to have your bills automatically paid via bank transfer (even over here). It's another to ask someone to buy something that doesn't even exist yet that way. They would be wise to get that prototype built ASAP if they want to move things along. I doubt they'll get the last 800 payments otherwise.

It'd be even wiser to get production going ASAP as well. They'll likely turn lot of customers away if the window of opportunity to order, even by credit card, expires before they do. I'm not trying to be mean or anything. Just offering up good advice for the Pandora team.

Let's wait for the "OK" or "not OK" from Craig regarding Xoom. I wouldn't be surprised if they get those missing 800 faster than you think, when fees are small enough ;)

In the UK bank transfers are not especially common - I've never done one.

The Europe / UK split might be important in achieving that extra 800.

I agree that working prototypes and initial production will change things.

I'd like to make a suggestion that might help. If it is possible, I believe that showing off a mostly built Pandora would be something that would generate a lot of excitement around here. Even if it sounds silly to put one of these things together without the keypad mat and possibly buttons, throwing up a picture or video of one mostly assembled would probably go a long way. We know the keypad mat was shipped to the wrong place and might not be there in time for Christmas so I would, if I were in your position, assemble one as complete as I could get it now and show it off. A lot of people would dig that.

You do have at least one case to work with don't you (I hope)? If not then disreguard this, obviously.
