Welcome to my two hundred and twelfty four thread today (Sundays are my lazy days) :D

How can I remove (or, I guess more accurately, make transparent) the hightlight around the icon texts in XFCE. They're making a nice desktop look less nice!

Fiddle with the values. I think you will want:

Code:
XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 75

Change it to 100 I think.

This has been another public service announcement from some guy.

thanks. 255 is usually the max value for Alpha, though alpha appears to be a bit backwards. I had to set a value of zero to get the desired effect.

cheers again

does this enable me to override any theme setting? any idea how I'd make the titlebar bigger? :)

It overrides any theme yes. You can set the titlebar font size in the Window Manager settings. As for the bar itself... it would require modding the graphics of the XFWM theme (and possibly the config file, it's been a while since I made a theme for XFCE).

Just experiment by making a copy of a the theme. Make a copy of the theme folder, and rename it (you need to be root). Then in the config file for the XFWM theme, change the title. Once you've done this, the name within the Window Manager list will change accordingly. From here, just keep modifying it and experimenting. IIRC correctly there are three graphics for the bar - the middle, and the two corners.
