Pyra Media Coverage

The nerdiness in this thread has reached critical mass. :D
You should hope that you never encounter me in person and start a conversation about ANYTHING. We haven't even scratched the surface in this thread. :p

Do we have the press kit in Klingon already?
Funny you should ask. I have been considering learning Klingon recently. There are other constructed languages I was thinking about, but they didn't seem as useful.

I updated both 3d visualizations (no love for the transparent one?) to have similar background to the description page.
I also think you can change the screen size when embending, like, to make it bigger than 640x480. 800x600 should be minimum.
Cheers.

The logo plate looks better on the red than the black, imo. If we get an option for a red case I hope it is a dark red, although that may not look as good with an uncolored plate.

I was pretty much in that camp, until I saw the rendering with black shoulder buttons. I think an all Red unit would look kind of meh, but the black shoulder buttons kind of made it.

One step better would be if the aluminum logo plate were black to match the shoulder buttons and nubs.

Lol, Rygd it appears I've found a kindred spirit. Star Trek is a huge obsession of mine. The Geordi picture above is from the episode "Devil's Due". I believe the handheld device is some kind of "highlighter". Seems like tools like that are prevalent in the future, probably because the props department knew they could simply wire an LED up to a momentary switch and a AAA,. All the actor had to do was point it at something translucent and it would look future cool.

I too liken the Pyra more to a Tricorder than a PADD. Even going so far as to label my Pandora "TR-590". The grey case also looks a lot like the styrene prop used in voyager/ds9. But I'd like to note that the "stupid translucent" PADDs seem to appear more often than Geordi's red engineering one, at least in TNG. You are correct, mostly in the Ready Room and Sickbay sets, but also in private quarters. This seems to imply they are a more personal device, it appears they have a more advanced sense of taste in the future. ;)

Doesn't it bother you when on the show they have a stack of PADDs or hand one to an officer to be delivered somewhere? Its funny how Star Trek got so many things about the future right (probably because their portrayal influenced the future) while at the same time getting so many little details completely wrong.

FWiW, took me about three hours to first try to render one of those 3D images and then try to kill the scripts that were making my browser unresponsive. In the end I killed the browser, restarted and managed to close the tab before it could load fully.

Now this is an old low power computer, but it suits my uses for the vast majority of cases, but clearly that 3D rendering was beyond it. I'd caveat about putting it in too many places, but I guess I'd have to enable scripts to see it so it shouldn't be hard for me to avoid on this machine myself.

I know dark grey is not one of the two most popular choices.

You say that, but in the Pyra spectrum thread it was the one with the broadest appeal. I brought it up in the IRC recently and not a single person disagreed that it was superior to black. I wonder if people aren't picturing it right when they hear the words. It's more a "charcoal black".

Here it is again. I would much prefer it if the "black" one came in this color. I reckon in a head to head poll with black it would win too:

Perfection.

If you purchase red electronics then you are supporting communism! :p
I'll have a red one then. :)

As long as there's an option that's neither undertaker nor clown, I'm good - preferably something between orange and violet.

In the hustings I assume (or whatever they're called)? It doesn't look to me there's to be any self-described socialists to be voted for in the actual election to me, but I do hope that you can personally.
Bernie Sanders is self described "Democratic Socialist", he's honestly the sanest candidate in the race at the moment. If the Mainstream media and the Democratic National Convention wasn't creating a media blackout on any news on him people may know more about him, he's been giving Hillary Clinton a hard time, drawing crowds of tens of thousands of people at most of his rallies, yet no main stream media reports on it. He has a good chance of winning the next several states in the primaries and no one is reporting on it, the primary process is extremely rigged for Hillary, He may not make the nomination, but he's putting up a good fight.

EDIT: Blah didn't mean to bring in politics. Game on.
