Pyra Media Coverage

Aaannnnddd... for the surprise!
I´m not sure I´m going to be able to get this right at the very last, but I think it is worth a try.
Nothing like having the new user being able to poke around a la carte.

Normal View:

Transparent view:
https://skfb.ly/NY8L

I think this could embedded on the Pyra home page or something like that if it ever comes out nice.
It needs a higher resolution texture for the bake.

EDIT:Added a higher her texture...it is starting to take time to load. It is still not perfect there are cracks on the UVmaps cause of the auto poly reductions. But I think it is all nice as a visualization tool. Can use fullscreen on a TV or projection when on a display booth. Can be seen from VR for whatever reason too.

Edit2: Added a transparent thing just because modular blá...

Very cool, I think ED could easily embed this somewhere tumbs up!

Both the wetransfer TIFF files and the 3d visualizations are capable of changing the colors.
Look for the RAW COLOR layers on the TIFFs.
Look at post processing effects on the SETTINGS but here I suspect you may need to have your own free account me guesses.

It almost looks like "Debian Red"
http://www.dailytech.com/Microsoft+Preps+Lumia+730+SelfiePhone+Debian+Red+Firmware/article36366.htm
except - this device really does run Debian :)

I love the inlay idea now (I was confused what "inlet" people were talking about). Obviously it allows the user to swap it out for something else with other shapes, e.g. Debian swirl...
I wonder how well the LEDs shine through different coloured plastics, maybe some colours diffuse better than others, maybe some are too opaque for much light to come through?

Thanks a lot!
Added the 3D view to the landing page and the layered renderings into the presskit!

BTW: I also added the videos without music to the PressKit, feel free to use them for anything you like.

Much to do with the Pyra

Play games, get work done, listen to music, use it as a photography asset. The Pyra has unique features in all these areas.

Debian GNU/Linux operating system means even your oldest relative can figure out how to browse the web, watch videos, do office work, and edit photos.

Firefox, Thunderbird, ClawsMail, Transmission, VLC, LibreOffice, GIMP and thousands of other tools
can be downloaded within the operating system, the same functionality even takes care of updating them and pulling in security updates.

If you want to get fancy, code, compile, port games and create websites to your hearts content.

GNU/Linux is faster than Android, and more responsive. The pandora can already play games like Diablo II, Call To Power II, Jedi Knight, or Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It can even do fullspeed emulation of many arcade and game consoles.
The Pyra is much faster, it has the power to be a Laptop.

Familiar, yet unique.

These days, mobile devices only offer one, maybe two ports. The Pyra is different.
It features one USB 3.0 OTG port,
Two full-sized USB 2.0 ports (one has additional SATA output, available via an adapter),
One Micro-USB Serial Output-Port (which can also be used to charge the system),
Headset port (that supports ALL TRRS standards) and a
MicroHDMI port.

Connect a mouse, keyboard and monitor and you have a desktop PC!

When users are in control, nothing goes amiss.

Smart users are not blind to the shortcomings of "smart" devices.

Physical keyboards and replaceable batteries don't really extract profits out of the pockets of users, keep your money and reach for a useful device, far into the future.

A 6000mAh battery means you have a companion that will be there for you, through all kinds of usage, and at times other devices have given up long ago.

Below the battery you will find (a SIM-Card slot for the 4G/LTE version and )
a MicroSDXC slot, meaning it's easy to experiment with different operating systems, or if you want to expand upon the 32GB internal storage.

The mobile edition adds mobile internet, and also has telephony services (making the Pyra a phone), it also adds GPS, a 6-axis digital compass, a pressure-, humidity- and gas -sensor.

Go wherever you want, into the future

The Pyra is built to be modular.
It consists of not one, but three circuit boards.

* The CPU-Board (CPU, RAM and storage)
* The Mainboard (all ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth)
* The Display-Board (for the screen)

Engineering, design and craftsmanship manufacture done in Germany.

Buy a new board for updates, not a whole new device.
Benefiting both you and the environment.

Secure, open and friendly.

Take pride in something done the right way.

You get the full schematics. No secrets.

And that screwdriver you own, use it to open hack and fix your device.

Your privacy is yours. We collect nothing, no account is needed to fully use the Pyra.
This also means there is nothing to sell onwards, visibly a more expensive way to do it on the pricetag, but without no hidden cost behind it.

Long time support.

The Pandora, which is from 2008, still gets updates 8 years later, and will continue to do so.

Replacement parts are still on offer for the Pandora. The same will be the case for the Pyra.

Awesome community, join in the discussion and development.

The Pyra is upon us.

Working prototypes already exist.
Only now, at the point where things are sorted out for mass production, is when you are now asked to preorder yours.

The road ahead

Regular videos will be made available on our YouTube channel.
Right now, some fixes are being implemented to the final PCB-design, and the case is being finalized as well to ensure it fits together perfectly. This is done in close collaboration with a company in Greece, where it is also made.

Mass production and delivery is planned to happen within this year.

The downpayment from the preorder allows us to order the needed parts upfront. Better for everyone.

Follow the process and get the latest news, visit our forum blog!

Got questions? Check the Preorder FAQ
or feel free to ask them at the boards! You will get an answer!

Suggestions:
  • Link to ekis blog next to the forum blog
  • Instead of [Click for more info] do [ [ + ] ] to expand and [ [ - ] ] to hide
  • Change all preorder now -links to green text. Red is when you want to communicate danger or not doing something.

if it's not too much trouble, "click for more info" should be possible by clicking anywhere on the red bubble. [+] would be too small of a target...

I really love the red color!
Even with the lighter red than I expected in the render, I am still stuck between red (as long as it isn't too bright), dark grey, and black as my favorite choices. It is really more of red vs dark grey, but I know dark grey is not one of the two most popular choices. I just need to see pictures, and maybe I can make a decision then.

@erico thanks for that. I couldn't view it on the device I am currently on, so I will try again from a computer in a little while.

I don't like red electronics - at all.
I was pretty much in that camp, until I saw the rendering with black shoulder buttons. I think an all Red unit would look kind of meh, but the black shoulder buttons kind of made it.

I'll indignantly accept a red Pyra if thats the way things go. You can't please everyone, and I'm not really a majority, but the clear prototype will always have my heart. I really really really hope ED sees it in his heart to try and make that an option. Even as a limited run. But realistically I'll probably have to make do with a red one. Just really isn't my bag, but I can appreciate why people like it.

But on the topic of Treknology:

"Why is this PADD orange? I can't play tower defense like this..."
[doublepost=1462889110,1462888130][/doublepost]Personally though, I see the Pyra as more of this kind of device.

1f4ec9715c_665x500.jpg

see, physical controls are the future.
Keep in mind that pretty much everything uses touchscreens and such (edit: in the later series). That is part of why that PADD is so great. The guy using it the most is the one keeping everything together and making stuff work. In other words, even hundreds of years from now you will need a real keyboard if you are serious about getting work done.

@directive0 the PADD Picard is using there is one of the stupid transparent ones.
If I remember correctly those are most often seen on his desk (even in movies, I think) or in Sick Bay (where I think they are blue). I think the medical one was used on a trading card for an isolinear chip, so the image on it was wrong. I like the look of isolinear chips, though.

I think of the Pyra as a combination PADD and Tricorder, and not just because of the clamshell. If we had a few more sensors, in the 4G models, it might be a closer match, but we don't even have optical sensors (cameras), so all those other fancy things are still fiction. I guess it functions like a communicator, too.

Btw, what episode was that equipment Geordi is holding and grinning over used in? The uniform places it in the mid to late part of the series. I can't identify it off the top of my head.. It kinda looks like a few pieces of equipment, and he is supposed to be working on the big thing with whatever he is holding in his right hand. Maybe he is holding them both because of the idiotic design of that work bench, but he could just turn a little and set it down.

If he isn't repairing something it kinda looks like the piece he is holding in his right hand could be a joystick type thing. Maybe it is used to control one of the flying/hovering things they sometimes showed. This makes me think of the exocomps, so maybe I will start with that episode.
