As I got a few requests, I enabled the donation system on the boards and added a first goal: Financing the mold for the keymat.

There will be more goals added as soon as I have the final prices.

The more donations we can get here, the cheaper the Pyra will be in the end.

Right now, only payment via bank transfer and BitCoins are possible.

PayPal closed the account a while ago as this page features emulators (yay!).

Any other payment methods you'd like me to look into?

I know Payza would work, as that's included in the system.

I assume donators will get a tag saying so, but will there be any way to show the donation has gone towards making the Pyra?

Or will there be no way to tell the difference between a a pre-order donator and a Pyra donator?

I would suggest changing the colour of the tag.

    1st colour = pre-order donator

    2nd colour = pre-order + Pyra donator

    3rd colour = Pyra donator

Too much of a hassle perhaps?

So basically, the idea is that we're donating to cover some one-time expenses, starting with the keymat mold, so that they won't contribute to the cost of the final units, right?

Just made a donation via bank transfer.  Never done bank transfer in my life so not sure where the money went as it does not show up in the % meter...

€10150.00 is a lot to ask in donations.

I do want a Pyra though.  I'd be willing to pre-order, maybe even paying a little extra?

It isn't a "pay this much or nobody gets one" kind of thing.  People asked if they could donate.  If you are broke it is understandable that you can't donate.  There are others that can, and through their donations it might lower the cost for everyone.

Edit:  Back when Pandora preorders started I wasn't willing to risk my money.  I am glad that some people did or we would not be here now.  Now I don't have much money to waste.

It shows up once it arrives here on the bank account, which can take a few days.

We don't need to reach the goal and no one is forced to donate.

It's the exact price of the mold and other goals (I.e. case mold, etc.) will be added as well.

Every single donation that arrives here will help us pay the bills and reduce the production costs, but we'll produce the Pyra without the donations.

BTW: so far, we spent about 60,000 EUR for the development already.

I need to check whether the system can do that.

Yes, exactly. When the units will be produced, the 1-time-costs need to be calculated into the final price as well.

I.e. if I expect to sell at least 2000 units and the mold production costs are 60,000 EUR, I'd have to add 30 EUR per Pyra to cover those costs.

If 10,000 EUR were paid through donations, the costs would to down to 25 EUR per unit, and so on.

Does that mean that if you make those calculations based on 2000 units (for example) then you would be able to drop the price per unit after the 2000th unit is sold?

Might be a better idea to use this "extra" money to invest in the next CPU board :p

    It's a pretty complex calculation.

I am planning with 5000, however, after the first 1000 units have been produced, I need to have enough money to produce the next 1000.

Moneywise, the first 1000 units will be the most awkward, as I will not have enough money to pay those fully upfront.

Once I have enough money on my account to produce the next 1000, it will be easy.

How about a goal for kernel/firmware development or is that covered by GoldenDelicious' project fund?

As far as I know, our most productive kernel developers don't accept donations (I guess they have day jobs, and money coming in from elsewhere can confuse the tax man).

Sounds like there is more money to build pyras if that money isn't spent on keymats.

Also something that is on other levels more profitable for all parties than paying for the actual unit once its ready-model.
