If you dream about the Pyra based on your wishes - what will it be? Not achievement of a single guy (even as marvelous as ED) and small team, but BigTechCo /with ED as BigChief :D / and with 'unlimited' resources. Think BigBigCompany /like Samsung of nowadays or - personal sentiment - SONY at the turn of the millennium / that has the resources, experience with different form factors, engineering and production capabilities to make true even the weirdest ideas

Some ideas might seem unrealistic / physically 'impossible' - but keep in mind we are dreaming and just describe them ;)

Let me start with something simple as current-state-Pyra, but with more up-to-date features / connectivity options as:
  • USB type-C * 2, one side mounted
  • wireless charging & fast charging
  • fingerprint scanner - side-mounted, e.g. around / in the right shoulder button
  • cameras
    • front camera with slider cover
    • back camera with auto-focus and flash
Now let's go on with more dreamt options:
  • screen hinge ala Fujitsu U810 / Fujitsu T90x / SONY Clie UX 40 / 50, that allows use in tablet mode
  • built-in pico projector
  • metal /e.g. aluminum/ case elements
  • extendable stylus - ala Palm Tungsten T3
  • and probably much more ideas to come ....

How will you describe your PYdReAm :- ?)

Numbered from most important to least important:
1. Camera
2. USB C
3a. Infrared (I love infrared on my N900 because it allows me to use it as a remote for almost all televisions and it can also help with GBC emulation)
3b. Reliable suspend

The Pyra also has a lot of ports that I do not really need.

The Pyra of my wishes would be just the existing Pyra but with all features fully supported and working. I love that it's slightly unconventional, and modernised connectors like USB-C or fingerprint scanning or cameras are not in the least appealing to me for the base unit.

If I were to take it a step further I'd add ruggedness and water proofing, and a dock.

Obviously a faster open-sourcable cpu/gpu would be a bonus down the line as would 64-bit and more ram.

i would just go for a camera, with a slight preference for front vs. back.

a well supported (linux-wise) CPU and GPU would be nice, keeping within our thermal budget -- i'd prefer battery life to max power.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I meant a back-side camera. A front-side camera is really annoying to use because I have to turn the screen away from me and then I cannot see what I'm filming. I never have the need to show people my face so an inside camera to me would mostly be a poorly placed outside camera.

I think the idea of adding a fingerprint sensor might be useful. It should add a form of 2FA combined with a password/phrase if that's supported for logging on in Linux. I have no experience of them yet, so I'm just not sure how reliable they are.

And I hope the next revision of the Pyra has usb-C. It might need a new Palmas chip though, to support better the mutliple voltages that the power delivery spec inside usb-C versions of the USB spec allow.

Fingerprint sensor would be cool as well. Especially if it can be used to decrypt SD and internal memory. That would be faster than typing my password each time. My password could then serve as back-up.

I just had a look on my regional amazon site for USB IRda transmitters, and there were two I could actually buy but they were both on a long meter if not longer USB cord, designed for desktop use. I can't find any iRda transmitters on alibaba; if I add 'USB' to the search it only shows me USB flash drives, if I omit it it shows me USB security cameras.
