Psx4gp2x Public Beta 2 Released.

That is amazing news, I am counting on you guys to do some YouTube or Google Video of this in action.

I had to sell my GP on ebay to pay the bills, or I would be testing it myself.

Gruntfuggly, AFAIK if the ISO runs fine on ePSXe and many on here are running the same game it will work.

I make ISO's using ISObuster (its free) to rip the data, and then mode2CDmaker to make it into a usable .bin file.

It isn't extremely difficult to do and there are some great tutorial's out there.

If you can get your hands on Ridge Racer it works well in Beta 2 and is a measly 3.75MB when properly ripped with only the data files.

I buy them at video game stores like hollywood video or GameStop etc.

Edit: I forgot to add,

@Zodttd, please start a new thread for that, this one is way out of hand. The new thread will be on the mainpage in 0.5 seconds flat so I am sure no-one will miss this thread.

Glad to hear you found your bug, I am curious about the "...small percentage of instructions not recompiled, things are going good for it. It needs a lot of optimizations though, as it has a lot of unneeded overhead."

Are these necessary? Or will we see which games actually use them? (is it like the Vigilante8 thing where the screen spins off as a polygon? Many emulators could not do that until recently. Or is it something else?)

Heh Drak! I did the same thing, took my GP2X apart and put it back together when it stopped working. Then it works sometimes really well and other times not so well.

Yeah, there was this one point that I resoldered something and it went smooth for like a few weeks. I think ill do that, I had to replace a Capacitor in it shortly after i got my unit and it might have burned out or something :) Or my crappy soldering just got loose.

Yay for bug fix!

Brilliant news as ever Zodttd, although I must ask, if it was part of the SPU that was causing the problem, does that mean the problem will be back once the SPU is re-activated, or was it simply because it was only a small part of the SPU that was turned on (and the sound crashed when it couldn't find the rest, therefore)?

In any event, I'm hoping to see the fruits of all your labours soonish. And if not soonish, then when I get back from France (leaving on the 7th :) ).

:(

Very sad news...

My GP2X is now barely working, and if I do get it to work, it's not stable at all. When I did my tests before it died, the dynarec was going the same speed as the interpreter in most areas. I might be able to test the ARM Dynarec and continue improving it without the need of a GP2X, but it will be a very slow process. I'm pretty upset. I'll see if Unai can continue the entire psx4all project while I figure out how/if I'll get another GP2X. I'll make sure Unai / Tinnus get the latest version of the code with my bugfixes in it, and if Unai decide not to continue the project I'll make sure the source is released so it can continue to be worked on. Hopefully I'll be able to return to working on the GP2X.

:(

nooooooooooo :-/
Im sure it cant be to much, maybe a coldsolder joint at the on/off switch, dont you hav some place where you could resolder it?
Where do you live?

How about insurance from where you got your GP2X?
I can't imagine you work so long and hard on this project and now you suddenly stop because your hardware broke...
I really hope you can continue development, because I really look forward to see this emulator getting better!!!

Sorry if it was a bit dramatic. I'm pretty upset about the dynarec's performance more so than the GP2X being broken. Both combined in one day just topped the day off. Just to clarify after rereading, I want the project to continue while I'm taking some time away from it, but in the unlikely situation that nobody can work on it or manage it, I will release the source to be sure it can be continued. My job is starting to suffer from spending so much time on the project. Some good sleep and catching up on work will get me back in the mood to continue psx4gp2x. There's a lot of work that needs to be done with the dynarec to make it faster, and I'm too exhausted to work on it right now, especially without the GP2X. I tried to open up the GP2X to fix it last time it broke, and it worked, but probably voided the warranty. Didn't mean to cause drama, just wanted to update everyone even if it was bad news.

If you think you'll need some break of this, the broken gp2x isn't that bad. I mean, now you're forced to take a break until it comes back from one of the distributors who will repair it for you for free and you can lean back. And don't have a bad conscience, you really deserve this! A week away of this will also give you some new ideas when you're back at coding.

Actually, if craigix or ED are in a different country than Zodttd, it could be up to a month due to the shipping and customs etc.

Hey zodttd, you sound really overworked. Don't get me wrong, we all really appreciate the amount of time you spend working on this emulator, but if it's causing you to slip up at your job and lose a lot of sleep, you might want to slow down. I'm confident that you can make PSX4GP2X even more incredible than it already is, but it doesn't have to happen tomorrow. ;)

Hear hear!

You've done a great deal in a short space of time... take a week or two off, and send Craig an email about getting your 2x fixed :)
