I know a good PSX emulator isn't likely to show up on the GP2X, but why would you say that about SNES when the GP32 can run SNES at about 95% speed for some games with sound on frameskip 3 when it's clocked at 150mhz? The GPX2 will have TWO 200mhz processors... that's over double the speed... Surely we'll have a perfect SNES emulator for the GP2X.
*EDIT*
Oh, and by the way, Sony's being fuckin stupid if they don't even want a PSX emulator on the PSP. PSX games aren't made anymore, so there's no way for Sony to make money off of them.
As I said before, you must have missed it. The GP32 runs SNES with NO transparency support, FS3 is much too choppy, and the sound is at low quality setting. Even at that it runs many games much too slow. Add higher quality sound, add transparency (big one), and play at FS0 or 1 and now the GP2x is struggling. Those are the things needed to be considered "perfect". I am not saying it is impossible but it will be very difficult. Someone of Reesy's skill level and perserverance would have to do it and everything would need to be ASM.
Two *333* MHz CPUs on the PSP aren't even enough to run everything smoothly yet. SNES is a bitch.
As for PSP of course Sony don't want everyone running free PSX games. If everyone started playing free pirated PSX games they won't buy many $40.00 PSP games you know. All they would sell would be blank Memory sticks, and those you can get from Sandisk so they wouldn'rt even make money on those.
Okay, good point, I hadn't thought of that(the PSP thing)... I don't know why. I definitely should have... but then why don't they port some PSX games to the PSP and charge 10 or 15 bucks for them? They'd still be making a little bit of money, and nobody's pirating anything. And Even though I wouldn't buy any PSP games, I'm sure others who would want PSX emulation would still buy them too, so I don't think it would be a huge problem. And they'd still at least be selling a few extra PSPs.
About SNES, considering that the latest version of OSNES9XGP is a v0.3, I'm willing to bet that if it was given some more time, it could be perfect, or at least damn close to it. Just wait and see. Even if it's not 100% perfect, I have no doubts that you'll be suprised.
