Problem With Drmd (sega Emulator)

I can only speak for myself, but even from day one I had no major gripes about the joystick. True, the cap sucks, and the stick itself was a bit stiff, but after a few hours of use, it loosened up nicely. As was said before, there are plenty of easy-to-do modifications to the stock joystick cap (do a seach for 'retrocon' as an example)

Also true, is that you don't need to be a programmer to use the GP2X. You should, however have some patience and forgiveness with applications/games/emus (the original point of this thread), since I have yet to see a "Final version" of anything that's been developed for this system. What we have is mostly comprised of Beta versons, works-in-progress.

You are the first person I've seen here that had any trouble with DrMDx (aside from the few games that don't work correctly; chalk it up to compatability issues ... also being worked on)

Overall, you present yourself as someone who has trouble getting a few games to run perfectly on a free beta version of an emulator, and has decided that the system itself is garbage, and the community as a whole has deceived you.

I'm curious, how much research did you do before taking the plunge? I bought my GP32 after reading up on it for several weeks before I understood exactly what the system was capable of, and what was available for it. 've been at these foums for awhile now, and when the GP2X was announced, I voraciously read anything I could about it and knew exactly what I was getting myself into.

You are saying that I'm the 1st person you've seen that had any trouble with DrMD. Well, DrMD was the biggest reason why I got the GP2X. You ask if I did any research in advance. Off course I did. You say it yourself.. for most ppl DrMD works fine. I installed everything correctly, yet it doesnt work well at all. I couldnt know this in advance, and I made a big mistake. Let's just leave it at that. THE END.
I think you should contact Reesy, but it doesn't make very much sense that your GP2X is so different from anybody elses! Maybe it is faulty?

He would be rather unlucky if this was the case, and that would explain he is so upset ... but, I don't see how it could be possible ? Especially, if the unit is not overclocked, it would be quite surprising that a hardware or firmware default leed to speed increase ?!
He was also saying that it is 10x faster on his unit, I doubt it is SO much faster. So definitely he should contact the DrMD coder, but with more precisions.

So they accidentially put 2x500mhz CPU's there? smile.gif
This might explain his problems with low battery life :p

If you have done everything correctly (as you say you have) DrMD SHOULD run correctly on your gp2x. If it is possible, try contacting reesy (the creator of DrMD) to see if he can help you. If he says that it should be working fine code-wise, then you should contact whomever you got your gp2x from and see if they will replace it for you.

About your other complaints:
I am thoroughly enjoying my gp2x and I'm not a coder (well, not yet, i'm learning! But i'm learning to code for the PC first as I hear it is easier). I use my gp2x every day. I use my gp2x to watch anime (currently trigun), listen to music (quadrophenia!), and, of course, play games. I play just about everything available for the gp2x and it is great. I love noiz2sa, rockdodger, tilematch, tailtale, scummvm, DrMD, ONscripter, and just about all of the other emulators and games available. I would never consider selling my gp2x or trading it for a psp (cool!=fun). I love seeing all of the new stuff being developed and hope to eventually be able to develop some of my own stuff. I could write forever about my gp2x, but I have to go beat my high score in tailtale.....

Well, I might be a little out of line with some of the things I said, but you can see why I am so upset.
I ordered my GP2X from www.gp32z.com and it came with a scratched screen protector. The unit itself seemed new the box was sealed.
The movies work fine on my unit and the Game boy emulator works fine too. But the DrMD runs about 4 to 5 times the normal game speed. I mean like a coffinated cheerleader on speed. (if u could imagine that) That goes for EVERY game I try.
(Off course I overexatterated with 10x speed.)

If my unit was faulty.. wouldnt the Game Boy emulator not run well too? And movies?
I will try to contact reesy, but I dont see his contact info anywhere.

You do know about the second 'film' on the top of the screen protector that needs to be removed, right? 90% of the people miss it the first time...
There is the film with the red tab on the unit itself that needs to be removed. There is the back film that needs to be removed on the protector that needs to be peeled off to adhere to the unit, and then there is an UNMARKED film on the front on the screen protector that needs to be scraped off, its not obvious at all.
There is a similar film on the power/battery display at the bottom y0ou need to peel off as well.

Oh my god!!! you were right!! I missed the film! My screen protector was brand new after all.. :)
If not for you, I would never even notice this... "second film". No wonder it looked scratched.

Ehm, this has been posted about a million times in various threads... And actually, personally I don't see why anyone would overlook it in the first place. I actually spent a few minutes looking for yet another film to remove, as people were going on so much about 'another film you have to remove'.

Furthermore, it is clearly stated and explained in the "unofficial" user guide

About the speed problem with DrMD : could you give us one rom in particular that runs too fast ?
This happens to me but only once : thunderforce 3 was playing waaaay too fast. I was believing it was normal and that this game was just a super hardcore manic shmup, but the last time i tried it it was playing at normal speed :D
But all other roms I have were always playing at normal speed.

I can't imagine DrMD running TOO FAST, as this would need a lot more of processor power.

I know it runs 10% faster if you're used to a PAL Genesis (or better: MegaDrive ;)), as ALL PAL Genesis run 10% slower than the NTSC ones (50/60Hz issue).

But 10% is not 10times...

I agree. When I was playing to thunderforce 3 and it was too fast, it was only the spaceship that was moving too fast. Scrolling was normal speed, as far as I can remember.
Btw, it is possible that DrMD is not using all cpu power, even at 200Mhz. But I cannot believe it uses only 1/4 or 1/5 of the cpu, making it possible to run 4x or 5x faster than it should

Check you have cpu speed at 200 Mhz in Dr.MD option.
Maybe you are runing it at 100 Mhz + Auto-frameskip (6 or 7) = Ultra frameskipeed speed.

If still don't work, just FORMAT your SD and try again.

Byes

Games that run too fast in particular are Sonic and Knuckles, Mercs, Street Fighter II, Urban Strike, Shining Force, and MKII. Processor Speed is set to 200mhz default. You cant change it. Frameskip set to auto. When I change the frameskip to 0, the speed becomes "almost" acceptable, but the sound still remains extremely sped up at any rate. The lower rate I set, the fater the music, soounds, etc. At the highest rate, it's a little better but still to fast.
I'm not used to PAL Genesis. I had the NTSC one.
I formated the SD card many times. I did the full format. Not the quick one. Used FAT 32 file system.
And please stop jumping on me about me overlooking the "film". I'm new to this forum and to the GP2X, so it doesnt matter if this would be posted even a million times before. I DIDNT KNOW IT WAS. It isnt a big deal. I'm thankful to the people that told me about it, and I removed the film.

What can I say. My GP2X must be running at 1000 mhz... (kidding of course)

This is indeed perpelexing ... have you run any other emulators? How is the performance with them?

Real classy. Did you figure that out all by yourself? The forum is where you help people. Not where you act like an asshat.
He/She is impyling that you didn't do as much research into the device as mentioned earlier.

I am currently going to try every version of S&K that I have and try to see if there is a problem with the ROMs.

edit: Tried all 5 versions that I had, all played at the same speed (sound is a little slow). Try some of the other emulators and see if you get similar results (SquideSnes with Super Turrican runs REALLY slow on mine). If you do, I would call up GP32z and see if you can get a replacement unit.

Look up DaveC on forums as well, he is selling a replacement cap for $10 which is supposed to be miles better then the original.

Ok.. I ran the Game Boy emularor. Gnu Boy it's called I think. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins works perfectly with perfect sound.
I will go try Squidge snes....

As for the settings. I'm assuming you're asking about DRMD settings.

Version 4.3

framerate set to auto.(that's where it's ultra fast)
At 0, it becomes much better, but far from good. And sound is still terrible.
region is auto
Sound is bad at any rate setting. At the highest rate, (22050) it becomes a little closer to being barely acceptable, but VERY far from it.
All the other settings are kept at default.
My GP2X runs at 199Mhz.

EDIT: Squidge SNES runs perfectly at full speed 52-62 FPS (Super Mario World and Mortal Kombat) Mortal Kombat 2 hangs the whole system. (dont have any other roms to test ATM. All games run with NO SOUND. Dont know if that's the way this is supposed to be.

well, it sounds like you have the settings correct..... i have no idea what's wrong then..... have you tried just starting over from scratch? (deleting stuff off card, redownloading everything, and then installing it following readme instructions)
