Pandora "pandora Live"

I didn't say anything about paranormal bullshit. I'm talking about actually working to create a community that people would want to join, and not doing some self-defeating bullshit.

All we're saying is that the community is too small for it too be done. I'd rather be realistic than to have dev's waste their time on a pointless project. Sounds like there's going to be quite a bit more people planning on buying a Pandora than expected, and one thread really shouldn't change their mind. Even with all of these people , THERE ARE NOT going to be enough people right off the bat to have this idea work effectively.

Being realistic at the possibilities of a live service isn't 'self-defeating'.

Even if there were only 5-10 people online at any given time who could talk to each other and decide on a game to play together, I think it'd be worth it. And the better this kind of network was, the more people would be on it more often.

What are the chances that those 5-10 people are going to have any of the same games/roms as you?
It would be better if some homebrew games and major emulators individually had network play, then once we have a bunch of those, unite them.

Well, if it's homebrew that we are talking about, all of these people are going to have access to the repositories, so people could just say "hey, let's play such and such" "oh ok let me grab that real quick!"

There could even be unofficial repos that would have roms.

Do people on here have Linux experience? I mean, using repositories is really fucking fast and easy.

Thanks for patronizing us. The ease of downloading stuff from repositories doesn't change the fact that it still wouldn't work well.

The problem with that sort of thinking is that not everyone who will purchase the Pandora will be experienced in the ways of Linux. Developers would have to take a stance that not everyone is familiar with Linux, so and program would have to be user-friendly. I understand some programs are intended for more experienced users, but programs that involve the transfer of essential files etc would be important to keep on a user friendly level.

Even my mother can use the Adept Installer that comes with Kubuntu. It's just a list of software with descriptions where you choose what you want to install and press apply. It then gets all the files and installs all the stuff, all hidden behind a simple progress bar. Synaptic only differs cosmetically.

It only needs two people online to be useful!

Anyway, TINXL is in development, you can stop trolling this thread now.

"Someone would like to play Zombie Apocalypse with you. You do not have it, but I can install it for you. Would you like me to?

Yes / No"

parag0n: so does this mean your going to setup the repository for Pandora software as well? How do you plan for things such as multiplayer emulators where the user's don't ahve the same roms? will you setup a roms repository as well? Finally, how are you going to get developers to use your "standard" in their multiplayer games? what if the developer doesn't decide to let the user pass arguments as to what server to connect to on launch? is that entire games userbase just out of luck?

We aren't trolling, we are being logical. Have fun wasting your skills on lame shit that will remain unused.

if you think something else deserves more effort than this, develop it yourself.
parag0n's project is pretty much something most people would use sooner or later.
it is very welcome and you should support or at least pay respect for it.

Seriouslly man, if you don't like what hes doing, then okay just let it go, its not like its going to effect you, I'm sure he knows the risks of it being popular or not, maybe he's not doing it for the community, maybe he's doing it to learn stuff himself. Many homebrew programmers complete projects for themselves, the satisfaction of completing something and learning something in the process is most of the time enough reward for us. It seems he's made up his mind then theirs no use in trying to get him to stop, let him try and thank him when he releases a free service to you, whether it has a good userbase or not. Otherwise theirs no point in arguing whether someone should attempt this or not because someone already is, case close. Now we can argue discuss HOW to implement this for the best result.

Nope, i'm going to use the repository that will be set up by the creators.

Right now, there is no way we can legally distribute roms, so i'm not planning on implementing rom sharing. In the future, a P2P rom sharing thing might be implemented, but i'd have to look at the legality of it first!

I'm talking with a few devs, and the consensus seems to be that as long as its easy to impement, they'll have no problem adding it.

The userbase can request the functionality from the developer in future versions, right now, there's nothing more that can be done. (unless the application is opensoure, in which case an interested developer can hack in the functionality and send the code upstream.

gee, well, i didn't realise i was wasting my skills! please tell me what YOU want developed, and I'll do it!

I'd like a wage of £45,000 per year, and a company car, thanks!

Please guys, this really is a case of "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all". parag0n has graciously decided to implement this as an option and his strategy looks great and flexible. It looks like it would be easily expandable in the future simply by adding tags to the xml that older games would ignore if they didn't know what they were.

Since he's not dedicating this to the Pandora, you never know, maybe other devices will use it too. There's even the possibility that if it exists, people who play on the PSP, DS, etc will write it into their emulators and we could have a huge group of people using it. Playing across platforms if the same roms are on both devices.

Either way, if you think it's stupid, that's fine, but who/what does it benefit to come and disparage parag0n here? It just makes you look like a dick. If you don't like it, then don't use it... you sound like those people who complain about certain TV shows, and in the same case, you don't like 'em, don't watch them.

(one poster here, 80% of the posts I've seen in various topics were dickish for no reason. One particular long rant to new users to get out before they get virtually beaten up is particularly ironic, since this poster is the most disagreeable person I've seen and the most likely to virtually spit on someone for no reason. Seriously, every post is like nails on the chock board, must you spew your vile poison here? Why go out of your way to attack others, is 'dick' ingrained in your genetic structure?)

Admins, I apologize for the last paragraph, but all the poison I've been reading lately has made me feel the need to call attention to this continuous and unnecessary spite I've seen.

Cheers everyone, and thanks parag0n for putting your time into what could turn out to be a great concept and implementation.

I was also wondering, is no one going to implement Kaillera? Given it's already a standard and all, it probably would work cross platform as well.

I've searched for Kaillera in the forums, only a few posts in the dev side, and non mentioning why it isn't being looked at.

Thanks.

Last thing of note: As for the legality of roms, the easiest way to wash your hands of it and get rid of the need for a central file store to draw from, is for the emulators (or the TINXL client) themselves to have upload/download functionality to the other person. This way, you're not even getting your hands dirty, it's up to the end users if they share a file (rom or w/e). The emulator would simply ask if you wanted to share the needed file(s) with the other person. The transaction is completely up to them.

PoisonedV: You seem to be against this and are being very belligerent. We've nothing against you putting your point across, but there are much better ways than being hostile and agreesive against other forum members. Please tone your posts down a bit.
