I would assume that unpainted is indeed universally better simply due to the parts fitting as intended, without the inconsistencies introduced by taking a Black and Decker to them. The drilling did apparently improve, but my first shoulder buttons really were atrocious; the holes were too large, off-centre and misaligned axially. I'm curious to see how things have improved when my replacement arrives this week.
