too bad the new machine won't have bluetooth. so i still have to get a n800 alongside it, to surf on the train via bluetooth+umts phone...too bad. but seeing openTTD on the n800 makes me happy
I would have thought a bluetooth usb dongle would be cheaper than an n800
of course! but somehow i doubt that the integration would be as slick.
if there is no standard bluetooth gui integrated, every app has to implement its own. have you tried usb bluetooth with the zaurus? its a pain. different stacks, different GUIs, etc.
If bluetooth hardware is left out for cost reasons (actually i think its quite cheap, but nonetheless) thats fine, but it would be nice if the kernel supports different usb bluetooth sticks and maybe sdio bluetooth cards in its default configuration. also, a default lib and maybe a default gui would be nice to have a slick user experience.
I.e. it would be nice if, whenever i want to use an internet connection, i can choose between wifi and bluetooth and have both preconfigured with a coupled bluetooth phone or a list of preconfigured access points, etc.
If BT was integrated from the start, i think these things would be a given, if not, someone has to hack it/build it (hm...why not...me...hm...) but it woulnd't be standard.
So i think when it comes to internet, i bet the n800 will be the better experience at least for a while.
It's really not a matter of device cost. It' just that i dont want to carry three devices every day
The n800 is just a bit more than € 200,-- (ok ok, bluetooth sticks go for € 5,- )
Linux has only one standard stack, bluez, and for GUIs: what's the problem of choosing the one you like more?
