You're confusing methods of detecting this issue with actual defensive manufacturing processes. That's not even close to what he was trying to explain. It is called PCB coating
Did hns say PCB redesign due to the Eagle PCB error?
Populated, yes, but I'm pretty sure the PCBs have always been Chinese.while I understand the Pyra board is being made and populated in Germany by a German firm.
Why do you think that?Populated, yes, but I'm pretty sure the PCBs have always been Chinese.
Is "connecting to usb" a USB device or a USB charger?Whirring noises when you connect something to USB or switch off the screen
You are aware that the layer build-up changes the impedance?Reread the news post carefully: We'll make simplified PCBs for testing on confirming. PCBs that will only have everything for the Wifi reception on them.
What needs to be correct is the impedance and traces from the antenna to the Wifi-Chip. And the measurement equipment doesn't need any of the other components, just the traces and the antennas.
That will then be implemented into the mainboard PCB files which will then be produced.
Yes, it could be the capacitors (electrostatic speaker). We have ceramic capacitors (to avoid tantalum and ageing) but they may make this noise...
Yes, my premium PSU that claims to be "quiet" also suffers from it and it's incredibly annoying. So much even that I consider swapping it out with another one even if that means having to re-route all the power cables that were quite a puzzle to set up (sigh...)This "coil whining" seems to be an modern disease in electronic devices. Even big companies fail to eliminate it, I know from diverse GFX cards that have serious coul whining issues, even high price Laptops suffer from it like the actualy great Dell XPS series. I wonder why this became such an big problem and seems to be hard to fix.
Thanks for pointing that out. Time for some fun and investigating. What about RF noise? I've recently noticed my pandora interferes with FM radio (somewhere around 100MHz) when placed within 50cm or so of the receiver’s antenna. I'm pretty sure it's related to the display, as the sound changes when the picture changes. I've also noticed similar noise when charging - but then I'm using a USB charger, which could well be the culprit.
Black market Pyra sounds about right to me. Maybe I should order a few more. Not a major issue? You will not geht CE or FCC-label and cannot sell the pyra in europe or usa.
I know your pain, and maybe more. That reminds me, I need to go fix the cables in the office from when we relocated a few things the other day.So much even that I consider swapping it out with another one even if that means having to re-route all the power cables that were quite a puzzle to set up (sigh...)
Regarding Wifi+Antennae: we want/have to change the ceramic chips antennas and have to find out first which one (out of 3 candidates) is the best one. It was difficult to even find some which are small enough, easy to buy, cheap to buy and are not too critical how they are mounted (goal: reproducible mass production). But now we have selected 3 models waiting for being measured and tested.
