The first Official Best Games topic for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)! Post your favorities along with a short description (aka blurb) or a link to one! The game's compatibility with current GP32 emulators would also be a welcome addition. All "Best Games" topics for SNES will be merged into this thread.

hi, i was wondering what u ppl think r good snes rpg's? i would like to know coz i'm on school holidays for 2 weeks and most of my friends r going away, and i would like to get into sum rpg's. i am NOT asking where to get them from i am just askin what the good 1s r, coz im gonna burn them to a snes-station cd and play em in my ps2 ;)

Well I think Soul blazer is the best but not many people played it or know about it so try that its a real good story its not like most RPG's

And yes i dont like crono trigger on snes so thats why i thing this games rocks :)

also secret of mana is great to :) soul blazer doesn't has the spiffy graphics but they did the rpg so well :)

the obvious:

- Final Fantasy VI
- Chrono Trigger
- Final Fantasy IV & V (not THAT good imho)
- Secret of Mana

the great but not-so-obvious:

- Terranigma
- Seiken Densetsu III (Secret of Mana II)
- Tales of Phantasia
- Illusion of Gaia
- Star Ocean

Few others worth playabla:

Robotrek
Treasures of the Rudra (VERY good RPG. A translation exists)
Lufia I
Lufia II (don't get mixed up: Lufia I never has been released in Europe - and Lufia II has been released in Europe and named Lufia),
Breath of Fire 1 & 2
Ganpuru (Gunman's Proof) A translation exists.

BTW: The Quintet Trilogy: Soul Blazer was part 1, Illusion of Time part 2 and Terranigma part 3 :)

Illusion of Time part 2

More commonly known as "Illusion of Gaia", an EXCELLENT RPG.

Also, don't forget about Dragon Warrior V and VI!! Translations DO exist (about 80% or so for VI though).

Edit: Oh, and Earthbound!!!! (Mother 1 in Japan)

Edit 2: Oh, and also Romancing Saga 1 - 3 by Squaresoft with translations available (not to be confused with Saga 1 - 3, games for GB released as "Final Fantasy Legends 1 - 3" worldwide)

Dragon Quest V with DeJap translation

u will need smartips to add the patch to the smc so it is playable on GP32

BTW Super Mario RPG doesnt work on GP32 Ganepark32

Yoshi's Island I might sound like a broken record here, but this is by far and away the best platformer Nintendo (or any other developer for that matter) have produced. Innovative, stylish and highly playable, Yoshi's Island is as good now as it was on day of release. Mario 64 just doesn't compare. I've not tried it out on the GP32, but I'm guessing it doesn't work because this game makes use of all the fancy sprite scaling techniques and really pushes the hardware to its limits. Please feel free to tell me otherwise, though.

super bomberman 5
i can't believe no one has said super mario world
and if it ever ends up working kirby superstar is a great game

Zombies Ate my neighbours! confusing, but fun!

Super Putty- odd but fun.

Star Fox 2- if you can track it you will be amazed!! how could a snes do it? dunno(FX-2)

Super Famicom Wars - Advance Wars for the snes!!!

Pop 'n' Twinbee - Cartoon vertical scrolling shooter with smooth graphics. Great in 2 player (because you can throw your friend) but also fun in one player.

Biggest bonus is that it runs great in OS9xgp.
