Just tried again using a different USB port on my PC.
All is now working and both the GP2X and the cards are recognised.
I suspect that a faulty USB port on the PC somehow threw the GP2X's operating system out of whack, causing instability. Once i'd used the good port it put everything back into place.
So check your PC ports if you are having a similar problem.
This has only taken me all day to sort out :angry:
Hopefully I can start to enjoy the GP2X now.
