Nintendo Ds

Kotd - The DS isnt rediculously large in person, like I said it's just twice the width of the GBA-SP. the PSP could fit in a back pocke too but it's not a "beat around" device like the DS is. it's the type of device that should be in a leather carry case or something.

Also the "games" are really more like tech demos right now. I'm sure some of them will me made into games but I'm sure they have more planned then just N64 ports.

kotd - I'm not what I'd consider a fanboy - even though every machine I've owned aside from the Mega Drive and GP32 has been a Nintendo. Its not cos I'm a fanboy, but more cos I've got limited £££ and its the quality that wins me over.

Anyways, my point to you kotd - you said Nintendo have no innovation.. well, they were the first company to use the save game feature, they were the first company to use shoulder buttons, and they were the first company to use an analogue stick as standard.

If thats not innovation I don't know what is.

Nintendo will suprise with the DS I'm sure.. who knows, it may actually be the first handheld I buy from them.

By the way, sorry if this message sounds offensive, I just proof-read it. B)

just had my whole thing wrote and my big hands hit the ~ and esc button and it deleteed my whole damn post

Read my post again. I said the DS is not innovative. I did not say nintendo wasn't. And yes the nintendo games that have been announced are all pretty much ports. Mario 64 and Mario kart. THey think they can win over people with any old crap. A NEW Mario and mario kart should come out. If they're going to port an old game it should cost hm half the price or less. I mean it takes them like jack all time to port a game. And if someone thinks a 2nd screen is innovative to see the crappy track stats in mario kart you gotta be kidding me. A bigger single screen would have been nice.

Just look as what Nintendo has done for the GBA, mostly SNES ports. Now they have a newer system so guess what? N64 ports! I am not surprised.

Because no system other than nintendo's has ever had ports

I saw one, one n64 port. Everything else was either a new game or a tech demo. But don't let that stop you from irrationally hating on the big N.

Also considering Metroid, Wario Ware, Animal Crossing DS, and some of the rumors from the 3rd parties, the second screen is going to be put to much more use than simply a map. But once again, don't let that stop you.

It brings up an interesting question though, who is more annoying? Nintendo fanboys or anti-nintendo fanboys. My money is on the latter.

All Fanbois in general need a good shooting, they;re responsible for more "system wars" than anyone. But sadly as long as there are multiple platforms capable of similar feats and people who can only afford to use one, there will always be people to try and say one platform is superior for their own reasons.

Either one is going to appeal to people for different reasons. The DS is the first dedicated system to use this direct input method of a stylus (I'm not counting PDAs because most PDA/PPC stylus games suck) which is a bit innovative even if the second screen is a bit gimicy, that dosent mean that developers cant find plenty of useful purposes for it, and even if they cant its pretty good for presentational purposes.

The touch screen is definitely going to be where the innovation comes in, it's how you move and shoot in Metroid for starters! (Source: Game Central - teletext!)
Innovation. None. Do some research the Game.com piece of crap had a tocuch screen years ago. No innovation in the DS at all zilch. And tocuh screens suck thats why they've never hit off with PC, tvs etc

I orefer to think it's HOW you use it rather than IF you use it. The game.com may have had it but
1, the game.com was only slightly less powerful than a GBC.
2, how many games used it in an effective way?
3, how many people even gave a half a shit about a product made by people with a record of crappy handheld lcd games when we all had gamboys already anyway?

Sony will tell you, they made the BETAMAX(better quality than VHS but no one cared), a better product means jack unless you can get people to buy it. Now if Nintendo canshow people how better to use such a thing through a superior advertising campaign it WILL seem innovative. (espcially since hardly anyone cared enough to know the game.con even HAD it)

I didn't say a touch screen was innovative, the way they're going to use it is.

Have faith.

I'm waiting to see which I feel is best after a year or so, either for the homebrew scene or the quality of the games.

I didn't wait and think when I bought my ps2, I just wanted to make sure I could play final fantasy and metal gear solid games after the fun I had on my psx. If I had waited and thought of the things I'd want to use the console for, I'd have gone for an X-box I think.

My point is, there's no point in deciding now what handheld you are going to buy. Wait for them to be released and judge them both fairly as a system on it's own.
