Hm
Metal Gear Acid not a port
Wipeout Pure, not a port
Twisted metal Head on, not a port
NFSU Rivals, not a port
Ape Escape, not a port
Lumines, not a port
Ah stuff it I can't be bothered writing anymore
Wipeout = done before, new name
Twisted Metal = done before, new name
NFSU = done before, new name
Ape Escape = done before
I'll give credit to Metal Gear for being different (card based) and Lumines for atleast being a decent puzzler.
I should have been more clear, the device needs some new franchises. Not rehashes of tried and true PS2 games, repackaged under a new name and with a new story thrown into the mix.
I dont personally see the point in laying down my cash for a device which gives me roughly the same gaming experience that i can otherwise have on my PS2.
Atleast the DS is attempting to be different, with it's dual screens and all. Opening up new gaming concepts and making developers approach the development process differently.
However, i've yet to actually see a current or up and coming DS title that really makes some brilliant use of the second touch screen. Warioware did a good job of using it, but even that was just a rehash of the GBA version with some touchscreen elements thrown into the mix.
My biggest problem? New games aren't revolutionary enough. I'm sick of playing the same gameplay over and over and over again, just shifted to a new story with different characters.
I totally agree with what what Warren Spector was getting across at GDC. Publishers are killing creative content by introducing big budgets in order to earn themselves a fortune. You make another big budget game using a gameplay formula which has proven to work in the past, and the publisher walks away with a ton of cash.
Next generation of handhelds and consoles? i'll pass. Unless of course the proposed industry revolution comes and the developers somehow manage to take control of their own content.
I guess the first solution can be that EA goes bankrupt and closes it's doors. But that's like dreaming for a million dollars to rain from the sky.
